Beaches or sandy shores on or near Rappahannock River

Does anyone know of any beaches or sandy shores on or near the Rappahannock River. Perhaps Deltaville, Irvington or even near the mouth of the river. It gets hot during the summer months and would be nice to sail to a sandy shore so that our children can swim and explore the shores.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

try active captian.com and see if you can find some areas that others have been before and left notes to. It's the interactive cruising guide section to try.

You can anchor in Little Bay behind Windmill Point (across from Antipoison Creek) and there is a nice beach you can dingy over to.

I'd say its sometimes "crowded", but my definition of crowded has changed since moving to Herrington Harbor and sailing in the middle bay area. If you're from up here, its dang near deserted anywhere you go in that part of the bay.
