OpSail 2012 Baltimore/Annapolis

As most of you know, OpSail 2012 will stop in Baltimore during next year's commemoration of the War of 1812. The ships will sail from Norfolk the week of 13 - 19 June.

I was hoping that I could organize something for my sail club that weekend. Volunteering as safety boats is out. Other than sitting in the middle of the Bay watching the tall ships sail by, what else could we do? I suppose we could get into a marina and sit and wait there.

I would appreciate some input. I'm hoping we can do something a little different. Thanks.

Darn! And I really wanted to go to that! I'm already committed to this OpSail event, however.

Was anchored right in front of the Statue of Liberty for the original OpSail in '76. Watched the square riggers sail by, up the Hudson. It was a hazy day and seeing those boats with crews dressed up and standing like ants in the rigging was absolutely awesome. Would like to see another of these events. Didn't know they still had them. The War of 1812?...Constitution, Leopard, Chesapeake, Shannon, La Flesch. Wonder if they'll all be there?

For Op Sail 76 I hopped a ride on the Eagle, boarded her in the Cheaspeake near Bloody Point. It was a rainy ugly day, but life memories for sure.

That's awesome. Taking a ride on a square rigger is on my bucket list. Am just reading O'Brien's Aubrey/Maturin series so am really primed for doing this somewhere next season.

There is a schedule of port cities on the website.

Thanks for the link. Did not know that the OpSail effort has been going on since 1964.
