Arrow CBS! Watch This Space!

A few Chesapeake Bay Sailors (CBS) got together last summer for a raft up one weekend across from the horse farm behind Gibson Island. John and I couldn't make it but those that did apparently had a bang up time. Each boat brought an appetizer to share. Maybe one of the boats that took pictures could post a few? They had such a good time that it was suggested that we make this a monthly event in 2012 and post it in the forum for anyone to attend.

We will probably choose the same weekend each month so that plans can be made, schedules adjusted, stories worked out for employers, etc. Whoever can come, great. If you can't, there's always next month.

It was suggested that it run from March to December, with the exception of June. We're skipping June as that is the not-to-be-missed annual Sailnet get together at the Maryland Yacht Club that Dave Perlman and his wife organize.

I'll post the weekend once we decide. In the meantime, any suggestions for locations would be appreciated. The group that got together last summer were all from the mid to upper Bay but that doesn't mean a lower Bay raft up can't be organized by someone down there. It would be kind of cool if one of us happened to be down there anyway and had the opportunity to join that group.

SO! Watch this space for more details and post a suggested location.

We're in!

Can't suggest locations because (gloat gloat) my Ches. Bay charts are all stowed at the bottom of the locker since we're in Florida for the winter. Right off the bat, though, how about Queenstown Cr on the eastern shore just north of the Bay Bridge? Pretty, and not too developed ... but you can dinghy to the outlet malls (!) if you're so inclined. It might be nice to plan a few of these that people could drive to as well as sail, the way Dave & Donna suggest - good for those who can't commit the entire weekend. Or, plan a restaurant near the raftup location for Sat night as a backup if conditions make sailing a bad choice but people still want to get together?

I'll look forward to joining in when we can. My BW (beautiful wife) loves to anchor out.

Thanks Donna.

It should be in the Chesapeake directory. Thread title may be misleading, however. But mostly, I think visitors to the Chesapeake directory will click on just about anything related.

This sounds like a lot of fun and we'll definitely be in for as many as we can! We're looking forward to it! It's especially nice to dream about this time of year.

As far as possible locations, I don't think we should get too carried away trying to plan specifics this far out. Wind and weather will dictate a lot, especially if this event is to be a set weekend each month. There's the old cruisers adage "I can name a time to meet or a place to meet but I can't name both!" which is a factor those of us who have to be back at work every Monday are always up against!

We've been a pretty Northern group. Maybe one or two of our raft-ups could be somewhere we can pick folks down the Bay?

Worton Creek, Swan Creek, Gibson Island, Back Creek Annapolis, Solomons, somewhere up the Wye, Mobjack Bay, Herring Bay, Harness Creek, Aberdeen Creek, Galesville, ...
