The best you find is here CBOFS: Surface Winds for Forecast Cycle .

The effect of land and trees won't show up on the forecasts. You have to be able to read the topography. Even then it isn't deterministic.

Re: 2012 Sailing Season

It looks like my sail club wants to experience the world of Pirates and Wenches in Rock Hall next weekend so we'll be on and around the boat if anyone is in the area. We usually skip town that weekend so this will be a first.

We're signed up for the August (the last weekend) raft up and since we've never anchored in Swan Creek I think we'll go there should anyone wish to join us. It'll be another first for us. I know at least one other SailNetter who is in Spring Cove marina and regularly anchors out there so maybe I can convince him and his wife to hang out with us. Perhaps Jaye and Dan will be floating by then (fingers crossed).

Posted in the past concerning Pirates Days in Rock..1st year it was basically undiscovered..now it's an excuse for the locals to get drunk and rowdy by say'n Arrrr all day long. However if one insists to prolong the agony try bicycling..we discovered that a few years back during that weekend..

Swan Creek anchorage in the past generally will be standing room only. If it's a calm night try anchoring out beyond the harbor ripp rapp

Precisely why we always LEFT Rock Hall. Our slip is there so once we get into town, I don't plan on venturing too far away from the boat. We may walk down to the beach to hear the music and see the decorated dinghies.

Most transient slips were gone early in the year, the restaurants I called have no reservations available and Swan Creek will be one giant boat. So if anyone does come, as mentioned the harbor area may be the place to anchor and make sure you have your own provisions. AKA grog and grub.

Re: 2012 Sailing Season

We're hoping to be there on Saturday (by land). Back in early FEBRUARY we tried to get a boat slip, all were taken. Of course, coming by boat is a moot point for us now anyway (*sigh*). Still drying out, slowly... Life Afloat Archives: The Waiting Game

Re: 2012 Sailing Season

We've been to pirates weekend a couple of times in the past. Both times we started calling around to various RH marinas the Saturday AM of the event and were able to get slip reservations for the evening. A lot of slipholders don't tell the marinas they're going out so slips become available at the last minute. The restaurants are a different story!

Re: 2012 Sailing Season

We'll be contemplating our navels and some leftover rum on Swann Creek next weekend if anyone is in the area.

We just went up Bodkin Creek for the first time this weekend. LOVELY area (as are most on the Bay). Kind of hairy at the entrence and a LOT of crab pots but doeable, even with our draft.

Re: 2012 Sailing Season

We missed the chance to rum with you last time - is the Swan Creek spot you have in mind accessible by land? Or conversely, could we meet you Friday night at your marina? Rum shall be consumed!

It looks like we'll be the only boat there. We aren't going down until Saturday morning, leaving for Swann Creek around noon. I mean, it's a 10-minute motor around the bend.

Our plan is to just hang out, grill, drink a bit, do minor projects that don't require the use of power tools (which might be sitting in the cockpit and grilling and drinking - all those rum bottles are really clanking when we heel). We'd be happy to take you over on Saturday with us and we can just return you to the fuel dock when you're ready to leave or you can stay overnight with us. If you do have to leave and we do have a raft, we can stay on the end and zip you over and go back before it gets dark. I don't think that would be a big deal.

This past weekend we left after work on Friday because I wanted a 6 AM start and since John drives down from north NJ, we can't get to the marina until around 9:30 so that's kind of late.

Just let me know!

Re: 2012 Sailing Season

The idea of motoring back to the fuel dock after drinking rum doesn't really appeal. We'll either bring our inflateable kayak to get back to the car (is there a good dinghy landing close to where you plan to anchor?) or plan to spend the night. Or bum a ride from someone else in the raftup who does have a dink. Either way, see the group on Sat!
