Re: 2012 Sailing Season

So how is the gathering in Langford Creek handled, Marina? Achorage? If ou schedule doesn't mess us up we'd like to go. The only Sailnet meeting we attended was this year at MYC which was great! We did loose a month this Summer selling our Mac and buying our Catalina 320, we'll make up for it next year!

Re: 2012 Sailing Season

We signed up to take the lead for this rondevous.

Clay, what are you doing with your boat, taking a slip in the marina? I know our club has done parties at Langford Bay Marina in the gazebo in the past. Do you belong there? Is there a fee to use the gazebo? If not we could gather on land and some could take slips, or anchor in the mooring field ( we do that when our club stays there)

The other alternative is in light of Clays post could have a raft up behind Cakaway then some break off behind Cackaway Island on Langford Creek. If only a few are showing up that may be preferable and easier to organize. This is a great place to watch the geese land in squadrons at sundown. Will be in DST by then so sundown will be early. 5:15 ish.

Dave

Who will be comming on Oct 27/28, please raise your hands?

Re: 2012 Sailing Season

I'm 90%, my sister comes down to visit from NH once a month because of a serious sickness in the family, if she doesn't come that weekend we'll go!

Re: 2012 Sailing Season

Lankford Bay Marina has won the award for 'Best in Bay' marina..I think..11 years straight. It's a family owned, full service marina with just about all the amenities. Currently there are approximately 100 slips and about 25 moorings..and I'd say about 1/5th of these are open(no tenants in em).

If there is wind..this area is considered a Hurricane Hole for the Chester River..so it's well protected.

What some people do is that they anchor over by Cacaway Island and dingy(with motor) into the marina. About a mile or so..

Oh..I have with great authority that it will be a full moon that weekend..provided no clouds..

Re: 2012 Sailing Season

Sorry I missed this year. Next year we will be part of this.

My local YC does third weekend of the month so I should be 'free'.

Re: 2012 Sailing Season

Downrigging Weekend is also on the 27th/28th in Chestertown. If the gathering that weekend ends up being at Lankford Bay Marina, perhaps a little side trip (by land) to Chestertown would be in order?

Weekend of the 20th is out for us, my sister will be in town so we will only be day sailing. The weekend of 27th looks good.

I believe Leslie will be aboard s/v 'Tango', who's at a slip at Lankford Bay Marina. Maybe you all can meet up at the Marina..as I am currently in North Fla. doing some Cave Diving and won't be back for another week.

Re: 2012 Sailing Season

Lankford Bay Marina seems to have lots of open slips but it is always best to call if you plan to come into the marina. You can call on the phone or contact them via radio and they can assign a slip. There are also many mooring balls available. Dropping an anchor is another easy solution...good holding, well protected.

There is a pavilion but I am sure it comes at a cost if they have to set up tables, chairs, etc. There are picnic tables on the lawn by the pool that will not have a cost. There may be a situation of the pavilion if you have X number of boats coming to stay in slips...

I will be driving in from Richmond Friday evening and staying through Saturday. I will need to get back to PA Sunday to prep for the coming weeks travels. I would love getting to see you all if you are coming over to the Chester. Clayton is away so I am just hanging out alone. Would be happy to host everyone on Tango for snacks and drinks. The cockpit enclosure is up so seating would be protected. Tango is in slip 84. I will monitor the radio but you can also call my cell...484-631-5572 if you will be coming into the marina.

The geese are flying and honking. The hunters are shooting. Eagles circle the area with regularity. All in all, it is a sweet spot.

Hope we can get together.

Leslie
