Has there been an April or May raft up decided upon? I'm fairly new to this thread but am interested in meeting some other cruisers on the bay.

Our first, if everything works according to plan, will more than likely be the rendezvous in June.

I would be happy to see if we can't pull something together. I'm at Spring Cove in Solomons which has a wonderful area for gathering. There is an area for anchoring near the mooring field but I am unsure of how crowded the area will be come late May. Maybe gunkholing somewhere might be a good idea?

The original plan was to raft up once a month (at least that was my intention when suggesting it), not stay at marinas necessarily. I think since the MYC get-together became the June activity, there is the assumption that we have to stay at a marina each month. Not so.

Suggestions of good spots to anchor and raft would be just fine. Those who don't want to raft with other boats can anchor independently and dinghy to the raft for munchies and socializing. We do that in my Catalina club and it works just fine. If there are a lot of boats we organize rafts of four or five boats each and designate one of the rafts (usually the one with the largest boats) as the food raft.

This all started when four or five of us had an impromptu raft up last summer, had a great time and decided to do it monthly this season and open it up to Sailnet. Each boat brought an appetizer contribution and a good time was had by all.

**And "hosting" simply means that you choose the anchorage (or marina if that's what you'd prefer but, again, the original intent was raft ups).

Spring Cove is one of my favorite marinas on the bay, the picnic area is well suited for a land based get together. If a raft up is decided, what about something up St Leonard Creek, gorgeous area!

St. Leonard Creek is a great idea! I like the idea of rafting up over visiting a marina. Should we tentatively mark it as the May rendevous?

Donna, I believe that was YOUR original intent. Some of us have presented differing ideas. I think a combo of both would be great.

Donna, I am somewhat curious as to why you have not volunteered to host a date yet being as you were so gung ho about this. Since you believe in a raft up, pick a date and get us together. We certainly will come to a raft up

Actually we have been having impromptu get together long before you suggested this so it really was not a new idea thus the 4th Annual Sailnet Rendezvous at the MYC every June, but your thoughts in this certainly have added to the group.

Any way to get Sailnetters together is really a great thing thing. If you look back though the blog you will see a number of us have volunteered to "captain" a get together whether a raft up or a land/ raft up adventure. The nice thing about the land and raft up adventure is that those who can’t get there or don’t have multiple days can come by car also. (I Think Bubblehead, Wingnwing, us again (Chef2sail) have all proposed to host/ captain dates already. Some are raft ups and some are combos. I think it great Adams has stepped forward especially since it involves our southern areas. I want o get together with Sabreman and his wife again so hopefully they would come, and there are plenty of members on here like zzgat who can’t make it this far north who I would like to meet.

Adams- Thank you for coming forward and being willing to plan this. We certainly would come to Spring Cove, but by car as it is a 75 miles sail for us and we can’t do it easily on a weekend by sail but would drive down to meet people.. I am sure if you host this some of other “brother and sister" sailnetters from the southern Chesapeake would be able to come also. Like T37chef we love Spring Cove and have been there a number of times. Perfect place for a get together and the boats that come could either anchor or take slips. Solomon’s holds a very special place in my heart as I remember stopping there many times as a child in sailing adventures.

This isn’t meant to stir up controversy, but either way you decide to do it Adams...would be great. If it’s St Leneords (an awesome place to anchorage) we won’t be able to get there and back comfortably unless we have three days. If it’s Spring Cove...we are in by car. Just don’t have a raft up in the creek where the fish factory is (I forget its name) it’s terrible there.

Dave, you bring up a good point, the occasional land based event would be a good change up and we know Spring Cove would be a great place to meet on land. Since we don't have a boat this year we would also be coming by car and probably would make a weekend of it in Solomons. The kids love the Calvert Museum and the ever entertaining river otters!
