I repeat, IF you have a documented receipt of the original sales taxes paid, you are not liable to repay any sales taxes to MD.
If you have No receipt in your possession and their records dont show your prior payment ... then youve got a big problem.

Warning: do not 'believe' anything that someone in the MD 'tax office' tells you. If you speak to them, I strongly suggest that you request that they provide the applicable WRITTEN tax documentation/info or a website with accurate tax info as would apply to boats. If they make a 'mistake' in telling you any boat tax info ... it is your fault not theirs, and penalties and fines will apply if YOU are wrong.

Thanks. I have records of the tax I paid VA when I bought the boat and records of the tax I paid MD when I moved to MD waters 3 years later. It seems MD has the records as well as there was no problem renewing my Documented Vessel Use Decal this year.
