Re: 2013 Sailing Season

Dave, (C2S),

I have to admit I'm fairly amused that you had never heard of Eagles Nest - although we call it Eagles Cove. We go there all the time as our 'quick' get away. I've seen / met at least a half dozen SN folks there.
Behind Dobbins and or Sillery Bay is a rotten place to anchor, exposed, noisy etc.
Broad Creek, Cool Spring Cove, and anywhere up at my end are much, much better places to enjoy the Magothy.
BTW, passed you on the Bodkin 3rd Sunday in August, 9:30am - you were still boarded up sleeping.

Dave - Auspicious - was that you anchored outside Annapolis on Saturday morning? Hatches down, no dinghy so we didn't bother hollering over.

Re: 2013 Sailing Season

You must have read my post quickly. Off course I know of Eagles Nest. Anchored there many times oin the off months.

We anchored in Cornfield Creek, right next to there not Eagles Nest. Its almost as big a circus in Eagles Nest there as behind Dobbins.

Yeah we were in Bodkin that rain forecasted day. sleeping late. Only an hour to our club.

We had a great weekend sailing with friends on the Bay.

Hit Ridout Creek on Saturday night and Aberdeen Creek on Sunday.

That's me. Went sailing and came back to find Back and Spa Creeks are filling up pre-boat show already so I'm in the South Anchorage. On and off the boat a lot with various jobs and deliveries. Alarm is set and I have watchers. *grin*

Heading down to the Rhode for the SSCA Annapolis Gam in a couple of weeks, then likely hang around Galesville until the boat shows are over and I can get back in one of the Annapolis Creeks.

Yes. A lot of snowbird cruisers work prep and the show. They arrive early to start moving the floats up to staging areas, run cables, and lots of administrative tasks to get everything ready to build the show so fast. Both shows configuration differ from year to year so a lot of back-breaking work goes on behind the scenes.

Oh my friend, if only I had known your plans, I would have warned you. There is only woe on the South River, for sailors. I'll be avoiding the South in the future.

I'm sure there are some nice creeks and anchorages, but getting there isn't pleasant.

At least now I don't have to say, "Should we go explore the South River?" every time I sail past the mouth.

Re: 2013 Sailing Season

I spent Friday night, anchored in the Rhode River.
Grilled up some chicken breasts marinated in bourbon and other stuff, with caprese salad on the side. Tiramisu for dessert. "Painkiller" for an adult beverage.

Around 11pm(?) I watched the rocket launch from Wallops Island. I was able to see the 1st and 2nd stages burn.

There were many sailboats at anchor near High Island. Everyone was courteous and quiet. The wind died and the water was like glass, and the surface was only broken by the feeding patterns of fish. No insects, temperatures in the 60's and nice and dry.

The next morning, I discovered that I set the anchor so hard, that I had to run it over with the engine to dislodge it.
