Favorite Chesapeake Kakak locations

Not those you can reach with a car--though I would love to hear of those too--but those that are nice for exploration while anchored, perhaps but not necessarily for the night. Certainly the possibilities are endless, so which ones are worthwhile as destinations.

A few I have particularly enjoyed:

* Janes Island. Accessible from the Chrisfield marina (is there any good anchorage that is close--everything seemed very shallow).
* Taylor Island Wild Life Refuge (actually much of the marsh outside the refuge). Accessible from Slaughter Creek.
* Tangier Island. Parks Marina.
* Smith Island. Smith Island Marina. They will actually lend a kayak.

I plan to investigate more of the Honga River / Fishing Bay area this summer. That could take some time.

Any particularly interesting areas?

Re: Favorite Chesapeake Kakak locations

we enjoy the headwater of Mill Creek, between Krentz Marine and the Packing house on Mundy Point Road, and similarly the head of the rivers that Kinsale sits between. Northumberland County, VA

Either from the boat, or car, but from the boat is more of a workout. Plenty of things to see, critters to watch - we even saw a deer swim across Lodge Creek one evening just at dark.

BTW, beautiful pic of Taylor Island

I'm with kd on this. We even had a pod of dolphins swim past the marina up to Lodge landing one day last summer. That's a good 2-3 miles up the creek from the Potomac. I've been boating there for 50 years, and have never seen dolphin that far up the Yeocomico, in fact, I've never seen them in the Yeocomico at all until last summer.
