Any interest in a Rock Hall Sailnet Rendezvous late August or early September?
February 21 update
Last weekend of August, Saturday 26 - Sunday 27 at North Point Marina in Rock Hall Harbor,
5:00PM to 10:00PM Saturday 26
Note "Sailnet Rendezvous" when making slip reservation http://www.northpointmarina.net/
Rock Hall is a good location and we are tentatively interested depending on where the sailing season takes us.
Labor Day weekend (9/2 - 9/4) tends to be a busy one in RH so if that's going to be the date, it should be confirmed sooner than later as marinas book up early.
One caveat about Rock Hall is the main harbor has a public dock at which a dinghy can presumably be tied up free of charge but no place to anchor and Swan Creek has lots of places to anchor but no place to tie up a dinghy without paying a steep landing fee to one of the private marinas (I believe now north of $20/day). Maybe one of those marinas would reduce or waive that fee if we had a large enough group?
I forgot Labor Day weekend is September 2 -3. Not a good weekend, I suspect most folks will have other places to go. Being a foreigner even though I have lived in the US for almost 35 years I tend to still think May 1st is Labor Day.
Revised dates:
August Saturday 26 Sunday 27
or
September Saturday 9 Sunday 10
I prefer last weekend of August but the second weekend of September may be less crowded.
Either way with timing currents in the C&D and Delaware River it is two days to Rock Hall and two days back to Philadelphia for me.
Sounds fun, we've never done something like this but it sounds like a good time. We could do the last weekend in August, not the one in September; I work on Sundays except in August.
Can someone who knows post information about anchorage in Swan Creek? We've been to Rock Hall but not anchored in Swan Creek.
The creek entrance is north of the entrance to the main RH harbor. The entry channel is well marked and generally carries 7-8 foot depth until past Swan Creek Marina's mooring field to starboard. As you pass the mooring field, the creek splits, with the north leg (turn to port) being the main anchorage. The center of the north leg carries 6-7 foot depth to the small private marina on the west shore about 3/4 mile up. We have 5 foot draft and have not had any problems with Swan Creek although I've seen people go aground by going too far off center and would probably not feel comfortable anchoring with much more than 5 feet of draft.
When anchoring in Swan Creek I've used the dinghy dock at Swan Creek Marina several times. They charge $5.00 but may not be available on holiday weekends when full with their customers. Not sure about transient moorings, you might want to call the owner Lee to check on moorings or slips for a weekend.
The trolley picks up at the top of the dock for a quick trip to town.
At the opposite end of town The Sailing Emporium has slips and a nice pool. No moorings as far as I know, a short dinghy ride or roundabout trolley ride to town. Good depths into the docks ( some big boats are kept there) buy very shallow out of the channel.
We will likely take a slip for this one. We don't have a strong preference in RH marinas although we'd want a pool if it's in August. The marinas in the main harbor seem to have more reasonable transient rates than the ones on the Swan Creek side.
Rock Hall Landing has a pool across the street
North Point Marina has a pool with bay views
The Sailing Emporium has a pool but about 2.5 miles to Swan Creek by road.
I have been to North Point for fuel and ice only, easy in easy out, $2.50/ft transient. Picnic Pavilion, grills, store, bike rentals,.... Slip rentals, Rock Hall, MD
Jeff, from what I remember, the Farr 38 only draws about 6'-2" and there are a lot of boats in Rock Hall that draw at least that much. I'm old, so I could be wrong, though.
For those anchoring out or who are staying in marinas on Swan Creek, we now have a very reliable and inexpensive trolley service. It was $2 when they first started but have since lowered the cost.
Closer to the beginning of the season they will update this to 2017 but I don't think it will change any. The driver's cell phone numbers are listed and you can also call while you wait to see how far away he is from your stop.
My memory from last summer was that the channel in Rock Hall was 8' plus or minus the tide. Of course, who knows what it will be this summer? We are 5.5 ft depth and had no trouble and the guys at Rock Hall Landing assured me that I could make the channel through the center. I didn't try this out; we did the periphery channel.
We are definitely planning to be there and will probably stay at Rock Hall Landing. Looking forward to meeting you guys!
We are coming and getting a slip at North Point as there is no close place to anchor and paying for a dinghy landing no is ridiculous.
We have stayed in North Point before and actually prefer it as a transient over all the others in Rock Hall Harbor. They owners are really nice, it's open to a breeze but far enough from the noise of the tourist places and restaurants. We have no issues staying there, plus we don't have to deal with any shoal areas.
Thank you for planning this and having a pavillion as a gathering Point was what helped the first 5 Sailnet gatherings a success. Gary hope to see you there.👍👍👍😄😄😄
The four of us (new baby girl on the way in May!) will plan on attending and will likely book a slip at whichever marina is selected as the "official" venue. We'd advocate either for North Point or Sailing Emporium. RHL has great floating docks but is too close to the noise from Waterman's.
Unless I'm incorrect...but Watermans has a noise curfew(11pm))on weekends..unfortunately most of the noise will most likely be from whatever Marina (with transient slips) that you choose..
Count me as a tentative "in." It's easily within my range, but it's difficult for me to see that far into the future regarding my work schedule, etc.
I'm good with Swan Creek or Rock Hall itself.
