sail plan Nantucket to Chesapeake begin of Sept?

Hi there, I am departing Nantucket just after labour day to head to Chesapeake Bay. Then onwards to Hilton Head. Sailing 40 foot sloop.

Anyone have suggestions on a sail plan...how many day to get to Cheaspeake should we allow. Then sail plan and number days to allow to Hilton Head. Weather consideration?

How many crew?
Do you want to stop at night or sail straight through from Nantucket to say Cape May?
Ocean experience?
to you prefer ..Anchorages, Moorings.. or Slips ? or a mix.

That should get us started.

Mix of night anchorage, moorings...maybe one slip if something interesting and chance for crew to experience shore...clean up.
Yes Cape May. Crew change in Cheaspeake and then onwards to Hilton Head.

Nantucket to Cape May (I like anchoring in Cape Henlopen better) is about 40 hours. You could break that up with stops in Sandy Hook and Atlantic City. Cape May to Cape Henry is only 100 miles. If you go up the DE Bay and down the Chesapeake you can stop in Chesapeake City, Annapolis, Solomons, Mobjack Bay, and Little Creek.

I don't remember how far Hilton Head is. From Cape Henry, Beaufort NC is a full day (24 hours) or so. I think a bit further than that to Charleston.

With 6 crew (on a 40?) you could easily sail straight through from Nantucket to Hilton Head in 5 days or so (24 hour days).

Nantucket non-stop to Hilton Head, that will be a great trip. I will do it in a heart beat. There are many bailout ports along the way to ensure a safe passage.
