Possible end of season trip!

Down the Delaware River to West End YC, Delaware or Chesapeake City, Cape May Harbor, anchor or mooring, Up to Altantic City for a day or two at Trump Marina, Reverse the route. 7-10 days. My girlfriend likes the casinos so Trump would be the high point of the trip. If I don't have a stroke from the stress of finally doing coastal for that short jaunt, It will be a major victory over my fears.

Denise, Sounds like a Great Trip! It sounds like you've given yourself plenty of time to make it a relaxing one too! Pick your weather, this is an ideal 1st cruise! Have Fun!

Donna and I have been that route a number of times. You will love it You will find the ocean more forgiving than the river and a pleasent sail. AC is 27 miles or about 6 hours from Cape May. Is your mast height less than 55 ( anteanes included). If so you can do Cape May Canal. Chesapeake City is a waste of 4 hours...2 in and 2 out. Better hanging at Delaware City or behind Reedy Island and riding the express down to Cape May ( outgoing tide). Trip from Reedy to CM Canal is 52 miles. 6-7 hours with current ( course it will turn against you at about the 5 hour mark. Better tide distance when coming back

I would stay 2 days in Cape May at Utsches marina...friends of ours. In Atlantic City be prepared to pay 5+ per foot unless you dock at Kammermans just acccross from the Farley State Marina on Clam Creek. There iot is 2.5 per foot and a 3 minute dinghy ride across the creek basin to the State Marina. Let me know if you have any questions.

Holy smoke, $5+ per foot which translates to 200 clams for 40 ft boat for a nite. . Just wonder what amenities are provided ?

I've been using Active Captain and really love how well it works. I even found the buoys for the reedy island anchorage entry. The submerged wall is fearsome! I love dropping the hook rather then a marina. My boat is only 44' to masthead. 5ft draft. C M and A C harbors seem very doable for my first coastal "experience" if this trip gels into the real thing. Thanks all!

Atlantic City anchorage is not for the faint of heart. You can anchor off the seawall by the bridge to Briganteen outside the Clam Creek basin ( SV Auspicious Dave and I had a discussion about this at the rondevous) It has a good current rolling through and you need a dinghy to get to the casinos. The other anchorgae where I have anchored myself is acrooss ther inlet inland thoroughfare from Clam Creek. It is protected...has a nonmarked but deep entrance, and you out of the way from the wakes of the inlet traffic. BOth require dingy rides.

Maybe you would consider doing Cape May and Cape Henlopen as your trip and do you ocean sailing from both...returning back to the anchorage. Spend at least a night or two in Utsches..you wont be sorry and for 60 bucks well worth it.

Dave, Utsches is most likely where we will stay when in CM. Right now it's so hot and miserable that I can't even think of being out on the river. Thanks!
