Marine Surveyors in Greater Annapolis Area

Looking for recommendations on good marine surveyors in the Annapolis area and eastern shore of Chesapeake (Rock Hall, Georgetown, etc.).

I was hoping to see some response to this thread because I am in the process of buying boat in this area also. I have found recommendations for four surveyors from other sources but I do not have any experience with any of them.

I have used Dave Manning and was very satisfied. He has been highly recommended here many times. I'm not familiar with the others. I found Dave Manning through Boat US, my insurer.

I was pleased with the work of Derek Rhymes, a protege' of Jack Hornor's, who was recommended by him.

I enjoy Jack Hornor's boat reviews and I believe he would do a good job.

We used Fred Hecklinger - very experienced, had a lot of insights into our specific boat and some offshore sailing tips in general, and we'd use him again. Disclaimer: ours was an insurance survey, not a buyers survey.

JUst a follow up. I tried to get David Manning, but he never answered his phone and I didn't want to pick someone that was difficult to get in touch with. I ended up using Karen Wiley Alt at Anchor Marine. I was very pleased! She is very thorough but does a great job of balancing realistic expectations on an older boat. Probably helped that the boat that I'm buying is in excellent shape and there were only a couple of issues to be addressed. She took her time on a pretty cold day, even though she was familiar with the boat, and even offered to stay and help me check out the engine.

I appreciate the comments re. Karen Alt at Anchor Marine. Does anyone else have any experience with Anchor for a pre-purchase survey? Thanks!
