Leak at Rudder Stuffing Tube

I have a chrysler 22, I just launched for the season. I knew the rudder stuffing tube was leaking but did not work it during the off season. It is leaking a lot more this year. Any suggestions on how to repair it wet?
Thanks for your inputs.

Are you speaking of a threaded sleeve that can be backed off of a "stuffing box" that accepts stuffing and is then tightened to a degree to prevent leaking? If this is the case, then the fix is pretty easy in the water. After backing off and separating the portion that accepts the stuffing, then an old bicycle tube, cut so as a length instead of a circle, can be wrapped around the water flow at the tube while you prepare the stuffing. Be sure to pick out the old material and add two or three rings of stuffing material cut at a diagonal where the cut length meets and with the rings fit so the cuts are not alligned. Check your mechanics before you begin to be sure you are not releasing the rudder post in a manner that would allow your rudder to lower or drop. This may not be relevant if the base of your rudder rests on a rudder shoe. Take care and joy, Aythya crew

Check the hose clamp at the bottom. I had a slight leak in my C-22 also and just needed to tightrn the clamp.

If you haven't found the Chrysler sailer site yet heres the link
