Columbia 28 ports
In an effort to increase ventilation on our boat I'd like to replace 3 of the four smaller ports with ones that open. And wanted to perhaps get an idea of the scope, complexity and cost of this project.
1. Are the port standard in size so I don't have to purchase custom ones?
2. Recommended brand for replacement? Beckson.. or something else? Not looking to drop $1K, just need to get the air moving a little.
3. Any advice on removing and replacing the ports?
The temps around Stockon and CA Delta are in the 90s and low 100s already and we really need some ventilation on this boat. Right now we have the forward hatch and companion way hatch...and one port in the head that opens. But the heat is approaching unholy proportions
I wish for more air flow/ventilation on this boat... And it's been one tough lesson to learn after owning it for a few months...
Any other ventilation ideas are welcome :)
It's a little late for a reply but when I did mine in a columbia29 I think I used a lewmar size0 but I'm not 100% sure.
It was not too hard but I had to expand the hole a little bit because the new porlight was a tad bigger.
There was no cabin side core, just the fiberglass and liner so I felt compelled to build a wooden ring that follows the dimensions of the porlight inside the cabin to act as a reinforcing plate when I open and close the port and also so that the supplied screws fit properly.
I felt the supplied white plastic liner was ugly and useless so I dumped it.
Hope that helps
