Newbie buys a boat!

So, I bought a Columbia 33 ("Imram" on the columbia yachts list). It's been on the hard for quite a while, but has been re-engined with a Perama M30, and the hull seems to be in good shape. The interior needs a bit of work, but less than I originally thought. (Hallelujah!)

I'm hoping to get it in the water soon. One concern I have is that the mast is stepped on the deck, and there is no post in the cabin beneath it to carry the strain to the keel. I'm thinking of putting one in there. Any opinions? I have high hopes of doing some blue water in this boat eventually.

I also noted someone's post about building larger cockpit drains - since this boat's tiny 1/2" drains repeatedly got clogged and rainwater ended up inside the boat while sitting on the hard, I'm of the same persuasion.

I'm also interested in picking brains, entertaining visitors, etc. I'm putting the boat in the water at Borden Light Marina in Portsmouth RI in the next week or two.

The cabin tops were built to withstand the presure of the mast...unless the cabin top has problems,...go with it...
The drains should work fine if you keep them cleaned out and clear of debris.
Easy to do. Columbia's are very well built.
