I'm looking at a '76 Columbia 9.6 fixer-upper to get back into sailing. I have a couple of questions for anyone familiar with that model.
First, how's engine access? One that I'm considering has the engine connected to the prop shaft, but not aligned. It's also not wired up after an overhaul. I would need to put a lot of time in being up close and personal with the engine.
Second, one of them has a tiller, and I want a
wheel. How's the access to the bottom of the cockpit? I wouldn't mind doing the reinforcement for a pedestal and pulley mounts, but I'm curious about access under the cockpit.
Third, are there any maintenance issues endemic to the model, other than what I would expect in a plastic boat of that age?
Finally, I'm generally concerned about wiring and deck hardware bedding. How much of a pain is it to remove the headliner for access to wiring and backing plates?
Any tidbits of wisdom you could share would be greatly appreciated....
Cheers,
Phil
