Re: Cruising the Caribbean

So that I'm clear, from your website:

Costs: We will be sharing food, diesel and harbour fees. Contribution of EUR 100 ppw towards operating costs.

In addition to sharing the cost of food, fuel and harbor fees, you're asking your crew to pay you to sail with you ("operating costs")?

Additionally:

Berths are assigned on a first come, first serve basis, and your visit is only regarded as firmly agreed once you have forwarded me your flight confirmation or transferred a non-refundable deposit of one week's maintenance contribution.

Is the non-refundable deposit required before or after you accept the person?

And:

I also levy a small weekly (or part thereof) maintenance fee. This fee covers incidental expenses for minor replacements and repairs. I've decided to introduce it since frequently used items always break. I may waive the fee for previous crew members, friends, or people I invite to sail at my discretion. It is understood that this fee does not represent any sort of commercial charter or passenger transportation fee. The relevant charge for the current trip is guesstimated by myself and listed on the crewing page.

Is this "maintenance" fee fixed or arbitrary?

Re: Cruising the Caribbean

100 eur is not much at all. Especially when you consider all the transatlanitc sailing companines that charge 3000 euro for a ARC berth... one boat I talked to had 16 beths plus 4 pro crew. So work that out at 16 x 3,000 euros.

Re: Cruising the Caribbean

Hello, the fee is both fixed and arbitrary in that I fix it arbitrarily. As others have said, this isn't much at all, it just helps with maintenance. The deposit must be remitted after confirmation in lieu of a flight ticket. This compensates me for people not showing and is offset against the fee.
