Looking to join a crew...

Hey, I'm interested in finding a sailboat in need of a deckhand. I have seen a few websites that allows you to find sailors looking for crew but I'm not sure which ones are best to use. Could you help me find a trustworthy website to help me find a sailboat in need of crew? Any additional information or stories related to joining a crew for a few months sailing the Bahamas and Caribbean would be appreciated. Also what steps would i need to take to make sure the whole thing is legit and i don't end up being a victim of human trafficking.

If you answer an add online, well it's the luck of the draw.
If you're serious about it, then you need to contact an agent, but you stand a better chance if you can walk through their door for an interview with a well put together resume and photos in your hands.
Antigua is a good place to start...

Re: Looking to join a crew...

Very soon there will be a thousand boats sailing to the Caribbean from places like Newport, RI, Norfolk, VA, Annapolis, MD and others. Get yourself on the docks and start asking for a position. Check out the cruising rallies on the web; "The ARC Caribbean 1500 fleet sails from Portsmouth, VA", etc.
Shouldn't be hard to find a boat if you are a pleasant person with the desire to help out however you are needed. If you are a primadonna, forget it.

Talk with Capt. Larry at Atlantic Sailing Experience, at this website. Atlantic Sailing Experience He's a nice guy and usually has Carib deliveries in the fall and in the spring.
