Crew Wanted for East coast US to Australia

My name is Rob. I am the owner of s/v Lone Eagle, a 36’ Pacific SeaCraft Mariah based at the Washington Sailing Marina in DC. She is a double-ender (canoe stern, cutter rig) blue water cruiser. I am preparing for a long cruise and am looking for crew to help me to tune-up, and make the voyage. I will be sailing the Potomac and the Chesapeake this summer and early fall. Then in October I will be taking her South to New Bern, North Carolina – a seven-day cruise. In January I will spend one month fitting her out in New Bern at a friend’s place and will leave mid-February for Florida. I then plan to spend three months cruising Florida (the Abaco’s and Eleuthra) in the Bahamas and then plan to set-off for Panama the first of May. After Panama the destination is Sydney, Australia via the Galapagos Islands, the Marquesas, Tahiti, Fiji, and then Sydney.
I am interested in crew for the entire voyage, but understand that this could involve a number of months. I will certainly consider someone interested in one or more segments, but would prefer someone who could make the entire voyage.

I am 45, divorced, and will be traveling to Australia to be with my family. I have been sailing for many years with voyages up and down the East Coast and throughout the Caribbean. Lone Eagle was designed for blue water cruising. She is beautifully designed for self-sufficient cruising weighing-in at 8 tons with all bronze fittings. She has a teardrop shaped cockpit, is all teak below decks, is equipped with a full galley, and sleeps four in two separate staterooms.

I am looking for someone to join my on one or more legs of the voyage who can (or I can teach) to trim a sheet, stand a watch, share a sunset, and adapt to the rigors and rewards of this kind of voyage. All cruising expenses, including return airfare from Sydney will be paid by me save for your personal expenses while in port.

Please drop me a note at robsail56@hotmail.com, or give me a call at (mobile) 202-494-0615, or home at 703-979-9351 if you or someone you know might be interested.

Thanks for your interest,

Rob

Hi Rob,

I read your message; sounds like a great trip. I am a 34 year old Canadian living and working in Toronto. I have been a prosthetic technician for four years, and am looking to take a break to see the world.

My sailing experience is mainly racing keel boats, with one crusing trip in 1996 from Quebec City to Halifax NS. I learned to sail in my early 20''s in dingys and quickly progressed to the larger boats. While Racing I can do any job required from foredeck to pit and sail trim. While crusing I also did the previous, but spent much of my time helming. The crusing boat was a sparkman & stevens 37 approximately 8 or 9 tones. I have sailed fair weather as well as in extremely foul weather. I presently race J35''s in fleet 8 in Toronto and will compete in Detroit at the NA''s in September.

If you have a detailed itinerary I would appreciate it if you could E-Mail it to me. I will touch base by phone in the next week or so. I look forward to speaking with you.

Best regards,
Paul

Hello Rob.
I really enjoyed reading about your extended plans for a great voyage. I grew up around the water, father a career naval officer. I have a profound love for the ocean; have lived in Florida, New Jersey, Rhode Island, North Carolina, Taiwan. I grew up with boats of all kinds both power and sail, the largest sailboat an O''Day 32 foot Ketch. I worked offshore two and a half years in the Gulf on supply boats as a member of the Merchant Marine. I also have my own cruising goals and need to learn more about ocean voyaging. I now live in Indiana but am considering moving back to Florida Jan. or Feb. of 2002. I am unable to commit to the entire trip but have an interest in the New Bern, North Carolina to Florida leg or perhaps others when my moving plans firm up a bit more. I am very interested in Tahiti and Australia as well. I work as a photographer/editor at an ABC television station so would be able to document the journey as well as fulfill my duties as crew. I am 47 years of age in good health and would like to discuss the trip with you in greater detail. Thank you and good luck!
My home phone is 219-447-0260 although email is probably best as I work evenings.

Hey Rob,
We are a young (mid 20''s) couple very interested in crewing with you for at least the first leg of your journey starting out January 2002 and continuing to at least Panama. We currently live in Canada on the West Coast but would be prepared to fly out and meet you in mid January and help with any final preparations on the boat. Although our sailing experience is limited, we make up for it in enthusiasm and hard work! We hope to master the art of sailing out in the ocean so that hopefully one day we can buy our own boat and continue the tradition!
We''d like to exchange a few more details with you, my email is pattyb@interchange.ubc.ca, or my phone number is 604 584-1716.
Look forward to exchanging stories with you,
Patty & Graham

Hi Rob,

I am a 21 year old hard working Canadian looking for adventure on the water. Is there still places for a crew member available on your trip? If so I am very interested and would be a great candidate.

Please let me know a.s.a.p. and it will be my pleasure to explain my qualifications and background.

Cheers!
Frank

AdamLein will become famous soon enough
Frank, unless Rob's voyage was severely delayed I think you'll find that the crew openings on this one are gone. Too bad, he was one of the few "Join my ocean voyage" posters who legitimately sounded like he had his act together.

O Rob, if your ears are ringing it's because we're talking about you!
