Seabrook

Bill,

You should consider Seabrook Marina. It is just across the bridge from Kemah. It is an excellent location and without all the tourists and traffic in Kemah. As far as I know they are planning to rebuild the pool and they have constantly been working on repairing hurricane damage.

We keep our boat there and have really enjoyed it. You can be in the bay in 5 minutes. The location also can't be beat to see the fireworks on 4th of July either. We had considered moving to Waterford, but the location at Seabrook is just too convenient. Also, some of the older slips come with storage closets instead of dock boxes which is nice for storage.

Easy,
A little late to the party, Watergate had about 50% damage but is pretty much back to normal. Overall Waterford did much better. Portifino and South Shore survived with minimal damage. Seabrook and Lakewood got hit the hardest along with Hilton Marina.
Now for the bad news, Skippers did not survive, I think they are going to clean out and reopen but they haven't yet.

Seabrook faired much better than Watergate from what I saw. We only had 20% damage. There was only one boat on my pier that sank and two on the pier behind mine. I believe that one pier N, I believe was a total loss, but otherwise we came out a lot better than Bal Harbour (Hilton) and Lakewood.

Ofcourse all the boats on stands in the yard did float off. The Shipyard I believe was a total loss.

Watergate

I think you will find Watergate to be a great place to sail from. I have kept a boat there for over six years now and I love it. We lost four docks along with well over seventy slips. All risers) On the plus side, their are several floating docks under construction that will increase the number of available slips dramaticly.
The bad side of this is that none of them are close to either pool. ( there are two)
Bath facilities are still undergoing repairs but should be finished within a month or so. The club houses are being repaired and one is available right now along with laundry facilities. (only two washers available right now.)
You can contact the office at 281-341-1511 and speak to Pauline about slip availability and price. It aint cheap but I wouldn't want to keep my boat anywhere else on the bay.

Sorry for the delay on replaying but the time difference over here.
Thank you all for input concerning Watergate it has been a real help.

donhallmon, you said you kept your boat there over six years. So you was there the same time I was. My slip was over by the small pool. Not the one by the office but the other one. I think I would give up flotingdock for a slip at the pool. I had such a great time at the pool with all my friends.

I hope to be sailing with you all soon. Until then God Bless all.

Sorry Gulf, I was counting the damage at the shipyard and the brokerage slips in my classification of Seabrook as being hit hard. It wasn't a good situation for any of us, Thank goodness that all are safe and I have yet to run across a Sailnetter with major damage.

Bill, Let us know when you get back, and if there is anything I can do to assist, we'll find a place for a beer, even if Skippers isn't open yet.

Michael

Michael, Thanks for the offer and assist. As for the beer, mabe "Maribel's" Wednesday night free hamburgers and band.

I will be in the States 27th Dec 08 till 15th Jan 09, but will be in Fl tending to my boat. Plan on sailing down to Key West and back to Ft Mayer's. Then I will put my boat on the hard untill I make my sail to Texas around December 09. If I have time I might just drive down and see the damage first hand.

Again thanks for your offer and feed back on the damage done.

Maribels

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news Easy, but Maribel's is no more. There is nothing left but a gravel lot where the building once stood. Everything from over there got washed into Seabrook. We had chairs and tables from Maribels in the marina and hundreds of boxes of previously frozen seafood (yuck) from the seafood vendors.

Outriggers is still standing though and it appears they are working towards reopening. T-Bone Toms should be reopened by this weekend also. The pickings are slim right now as for places to go to grab a cold beer. Hopefully by this summer things will be more back to normal.

I found the cheapest and best place to grab a cold beer is sitting on my boat watching the sun go down.
We need to plan a Galveston Bay raft up for Sailnetters. Gotta keep up with our Chesapeake breathren after all. I'll start a new post and see if I can drum up a response.
