Looking for learning

I am 32 year old dad of 3 young girls. My hobby has always been flying, but have also always loved the water. 400 dives later (SCUBA diver also), I am now eyeing sailing. i have read a lot on the subject and learn very fast, however, no hands on.

i would like to know if there is anyone in the Florida area (prefereably East or West Central coast, as i am in the Lakeland area) that would mind someone tagging along and learning the ropes on the occassional weekend. I'm quite handy, and as i mentioned a diver and pilot so.... I can learn.

i want to eventually buy a sailboat for the family to weekend in, with my low budget being less than 10k. I just bought our first home, hence the reason for the low budget. (Closer to 5k is more like it). By the time I am ready I will probably have a bit more.

Point being, I would like experience, would love to sail, but don't want to put my family in danger, and can't afford a sailing school at the moment.

Anyone out there need a hand on the weekends?

Thank you.
