Need a boat for an educational-data collection voyage starting winter 2010.

I am looking for a boat, 37'-48', for an voyage through the Gulf of Mexico. Our funding is tight, and we're doing everything we can to make it work. Any assistance on the acquisition of a boat for the duration of the trip would be of great help.

"for the duration of the trip "
Good luck with that. Rashly assuming you are in the US (since you don't say) if you are a registered 501(c)3 charity you might stand a chance at having one lent to you, or setting up a buy-back arrangement of some kind with one of the maritime academies that routinely have boats donated to them, or some other creative arrangement. But without the 501(c)3...Odds are you'll just be treated as another buyer for another boat.

When making a blue sky request, generally giving more information rather than less is a good idea. As HS says, if you're a legitimate 501(c)3 non-profit, your chances are better. If you have a track record of educational/research work, your chances will be better. If you can define what you mean by a voyage through the Gulf Of Mexico and give more definitive answers to when and where, your chances would be better.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
