It boils down to supply and demand. It is always more sailors looking for boat than the other way around. Therefore the captains can dictate their terms most of the time.

Ampro,

Will send you a PM as soon as I get my 5 posts...again (apparently they reset or something if you're idle for too long).

Thanks,
Scott

a sail to Key West sounds romantic, key word being sounds
the last time I went to Key West I was stunned at the large Office Depot and other development bursting everywhere along the roads around the island, and further, the beaches seemed dirty unlike many of the promo photos(I think Hemmingway would be completely devastated)

furthermore, coastal sailing is very hard work & requires large amounts of skill/experience to be safe
they are not calling you names, it is just called
REALITY, all the best

regards,
-JD

I live in Raleigh and could help out. When are you leaving?, if you have not already. I've sailed about 170 days on the NC coast, BVIs, Greece, and Italy.

I was unable to fill the position so started the trip by myself. I am currently in Savanna Ga. and am still looking for someone to accompany me. I have a pickup that I am also taking down the coast so I have been taking short hops and then going back for my truck. If you are not in a hurry call me at 303-330-5451. Jeff

Not really a big surprise, considering the terms you require for them to have the privilege. Doing a delivery is a lot of hard work. It takes a fair amount of time to do a longer delivery. Most people, who can afford to take the time to do a longer delivery, really won't be interested in HAVING TO PAY for the privilege of doing so. Not trying to be mean... just stating a fact.

Let's see: You're not paying the crew, you're not feeding the crew. You're not paying for the crew to get to the boat or home from the boat. That's basically asking the crew to subsidize moving your boat—since they're providing free labor, paying for food and transport... WHAT A BARGAIN!!!

They can't be working while they're on the delivery, so they're not getting paid at all...and you're now asking them to shell out money, while they're not getting paid, for the privilege of working their tails off to move YOUR BOAT.

Again, good luck with that. When it comes to crew, you often get what you pay for...

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

No free rides

I am not delivering a boat. I was attempting to find someone to enjoy an adventure with me. I am doing this by myself so know that it doesn't require a lot of physical labor. By requiring someone to pay there own way I was trying to filter out the freeloaders that would assuredly answer the post looking for free meals, free drinks, and a free ride, while contributing little to get me to where I am going. It is taking me longer to get to where I am going because I am taking the ICW. It has been a beautiful trip and I am glad that I have gone this way. By the way I am retired and not in a hurry to get anywhere. When I do get there then I have to plan on getting somewhere else. Jeff

Still seems to me that you have little regard for a person's time and do not value sailing experience at all.

That's true. Key West is a fun place and expensive. A berth on a boat in Key West for an extended period of time might be worth paying expenses. Are you willing to entertain crew for a week or so after arrival to make their expenses worthwhile or is this essentially "get the boat there and then get off the boat?" That information would be useful.
