Hi everybody,

I love sailing. But... I love sailing fast even more!!! However, to race on sophisticated speed machines, a lot of experience is required, which I am kind of lacking. Therefore, I would love to have the opportunity to just gain experience on these boats.

My name is Marianne, I am 21, Dutch and absolutely hooked to sailing. Up to now I have mainly been racing in small open boats (29er, musto skiff) and sailing for fun on some bigger boats.

Any tips on how to become crew on a racing boat are also welcome!

Marianne

There is almost always a scramble for crew the morning of a race. I would go around to any of the local Yacht Clubs in your area that have an active racing boat program and post a card on their bulletin boards outlining your interests and skill level.

You may also think about hanging around at the docks at the clubs and talking to skippers and crew.

Don''t be shy, jump right in and I bet you will find a boat or two who could use an able bodied crew. Always worked for me when I was a "Greenhorn".

It may take a while, but you eventually should find a ride.

Good Luck
