Re: Punta Gorda to Bahamas

Where are you going in the Bahamas?
I could probably do it. I've gone that path (can you do Okeechobee).

Re: Punta Gorda to Bahamas

Hi David,

Thanks for your reply. My knowledge of the Bahamas is very limited; Exumas was the destination suggested to me. With regards to Okeechobee, I am told that with my 55 foot + required clearance, this direction is not an option. I am from Canada and my boat is currently at Charlotte Harbour Boat Storage. I plan to be at the boat around the 1st of December. I don't know where you are located but if you are interested, I would be very pleased to meet with you when I go down in early december.

Re: Punta Gorda to Bahamas

I am in N. Florida and have sailed from the Charlotte Harbor area to the East Coast and then on to the Bahamas. My boat is currently in Marsh Harbor in the Abacos.
What is your draft?

Going thru the Okeechobee waterway would save so much time that I'd try to find some way to do it. Anybody know the max mast height?

David

49'. There used to be a guy who would tilt your boat over with water ballast for more clearance, don't know if he's still around.

David,

My draft is 4'6. Going away for couple days. Will find out more about the possibility of going thru the Okeechobee waterway and get back to you.
