I've been wondering how many people go to the more "underprivileged" countries as we call them here.
I hear of lots of people going to the Bahamas, but that's an attraction for wealthy people! How many boats go to poorer countries? I'm not just talking about places which are close to the USA even though that's probably all I would be able to crew on if the opportunity did come. There is Mexico, Haiti, and various other islands in the area. Then further out there is South America, Africa, Eastern Europe, and the Pacific Islands then out to Asia. I know it sounds like I included most of the world, and I did! It's because most of the world has a much lower standard of living than we do, and therefore a different culture especially concerning money.
If you're starting on a trip from say somewhere around the Gulf of Mexico and out to the "more interesting" Islands in the area or maybe further out I would be interested. I don't mind pitching in for my share of the expenses. EMAIL me here: *lex*f@lavabit.com . Replace the 2 * characters with the letter "a".
I'm 24 and in Illinois. I'm more adventurous than average, I like do go to a market or store and expect to haggle with the price, and really don't pay much attention to the outward appearance of things as long as they work.
I was planning to crew on a motor boat heading from Lake Michigan down to the Gulf, but the trip got canceled. That would have gone right by me and would have been great!
Feel free to reply to my thread just to talk about the concept! I know it's unlikely to find such an adventure right away.
