Titusville to Jax

I've recently purchased a Westerly Centaur and am moving it from Titusville to Doctor's Lake on the St. Johns. I'm motoring up the ICW leaving on Jan 17th and could use someone to travel with and handle watchs and the helm. No navigation necessary as we'll be staying between the channel markers. Non smoker and bring your own beer. Male or female as long as you are emotionally mature. Age not an issue, I'm 53 going on 16.

Re: Titusville to Jax

That is a long way to motor up the ICW. Are you sure you don't want to go outside at
de Leon and up to Mayport? At least you would be sailing the entire time and not motoring and you can do overnights on the outside. Looks like over 130Miles on the ditch.
Wouldn't you have to drop the hook at sunset? I would think it would be three days motoring the ICW and than another good day to Doctor's Lake.
BTW, what is the bridge clearance on the highway 17 bridge?
I can look it up, I don't remember. I thought all the sail boats stayed on the river side of that bridge.
Is the boat sound? Have you spent anytime with her? You said you recently purchased the boat, I highly recommend some "Shake Out" time on board before taking off from Titusville. Even if you just plan on motoring, get familiar with her before you depart.
I actually would be interested in this trip, but I can't meet your time frame.

Re: Titusville to Jax

I actually bought the boat in Riviera Beach and went outside at Jupiter Inlet for the night but decided to come back in and take the leisurely motor up the ICW. Illness in the family and weather caused me to dock at Ft. Pierce then in Titusville. I'm a new "sailor" and didn't want to try to singlehand on my first trip on a boat I hadn't checked out properly. I have a 15 hp outboard that pushes me at about 4 knots against a North wind but I wasn't in a big hurry. The Hwy 17 bridge is 37 ft clearance on paper and that's right at my height above the water. I've spoken to the marina's and they said they are familiar with my make and model of boat and I should be fine at low tide. Worse case scenario is I de-step the mast before heading under the bridge. I have anchored off the channel at night when not stopping to refill the gas cans.

That's good, you have been shaking her out and it sounds like your outboard is dependable.
Be careful of all the Container Ships above the city; Ask Sailhog about this someday. It is a memory I will never forget.
Wish I could offer more help. I have family in Green Cove and would have been nice to visit. We will be in the area in mid March. Best of luck to you.

Re: Titusville to Jax

I'll be going down Friday to do some work on the boat. It's the Utopia Too. Jack Mooney's old boat, he's written about it in Southwinds back in 2009. I love her although she needs some TLC, no inboard at the moment etc... I actually went from Riviera Beach to Ft. Pierce on an 8 hp shortshaft yamaha at almost 4 knots but switched it out for the 15 hp Mercury long shaft. I have the 8 hp as a back up packed in a quarterberth. I have a new battery bank and solar panel, I have a 32k generator although that's a bit of overkill. the autotiller was aboard although the channel is a bit narrow for it to be effective. I'm still working on the head, it's a type III with macerator. It's a labour of love, this boat chose me, not the other way around. I'm enjoying the slow motor. When I get her to Fleming Island I'll get this innards squared away then take her to Green Cove and do the bottom work. She's sound but I'm a new sailor so I'm comfy motoring in a straight line alone, just not sailing alone yet.
