st thomas to new york

[kimberlite]

we are bringing kimberlite, an ocean ready tartan 37, home on or about april 29 from st thomas to long island.
we are looking for two crewmembers. the trip usually takes about 2 weeeks including a stop in bermuda. please e-mail me directly at kimberlt@optonline.net.

I''m not able to come along on your trip from St. Thomas to New York, but I am curious about how you select your crew.

Are you looking for paying passengers to share in the responsibilities of the trip? Well-qualified sailors with experience to help? Or just warm bodies to assist with duties along the way?

I''m a new sailor and would love to make a trip like that some day. What would it take?

Why is the fact that I''ll be sailing my boat from the U.S. to STT about that time giving me the heebie jeebies? Trouble is, it''s the only time I can do it and Apr.-May is the ideal timeperiod......

do you have a ssb on board?
i don''t see any problems with that time of year except the two gales and a storm we had last year coming home day and a half heave two and on the drogue for about 18 hours.

i believe the important things on a pasage are:
1 playing well with others and doing your share
2 being nimble and light on your feet
3 a good sense of humor
4 knowing how to sail
5 having some heavy weather experience.

blue water sailing is just coastal sailing a litter farther away.

Going the wrong direction from Florida. The boat is in Maine until April, then it''ll get trucked to Hurricane Cove in Miami, splashed, I''ll rerig the main mast, put on the new Schaefer furler I just ordered from hearabouts, throw on some new running rigging, torque the headbolts, change the oil, load up with groceries and begin the journey home.....is there any ciguatera in the Bahamas? Where do I find out what I can eat for fish? KW

I''ll be night stalking the north coast of the DR and south coast of PR. I figure we should be able to sail close hauled through the Bahamas. It''ll probably be the only time I can take the time to do the entire chain. I can also leave the boat in Luperon DR or Boqueron PR if necessary, and come back home and watch for a norther....in any event, the trip will be under little or no pressure in late April/May. After being in a Carnivale troupe last year, it''s probably better if I''m off-island during Carnivale. KW
