In Minneapolis looking to crew

New to Minnesota looking to crew on a boat on the local lakes or Superior. Basically just want to get on the water and daysail with someone who is looking for an extra hand and/or just share the pleasure of sailing. Happy to do the heavy lifting and cleaning up.

Experience is somewhere between clueless and intermediate but highly teachable and intelligent enough not to fall overboard or insult another person's boat. Promise not to discuss politics, religion, divorces (yours OR mine), or anything else that is a buzz killer.

Would really like to go out with someone who enjoys teaching or explaining sailing and boats and has been doing it a while. I know how to sail (onmost days), I'm pursuing the goal of learning to sail well.

I am new to sailing and just passed my asa 101 class from sailing breezes. The instructor there also recomended the wayzata yacht club when I asked him about opportunities to crew. There is also the calhoun yacht club but I believe thier boats are smaller but I see them racing quite a bit in the summer. I am scheduled for a class there in june so if I find something out I will let you know.

Thanks for the welcome and the resources. I drove by the Calhoun YC yesterday as I was trying to find my way home. Small boats but huge fleet. I'll give them and Wayzata a try. Thanks for the tips!

I was supposed to have the first class at the calhoun yacht club this evening. the weather was perfect for it. Unfortunately there is no place to park. I gave up after 45 minutes and only finding things halfway across the lake. I think if it is nice enough to sail then everyone is going to be out with thier windsurfing boards. So unless you take the bus do yourself a favor and schedule at one of the schools on a lake that has some parking at the marina.

I'd suggest put your bike on your car, park anywhere around the lake, then hop on your bike and enjoy the ride to the club...

We took a class there last year and there were about 25 students and 4 instructors, so it was pretty much learning everything on your own. I took 101 from Sailing Breezes and learned much more with 3 students and one instructor. Got to do the MOB in about 25k of wind. Don't know where all the other boats were.

We are about ready to take our Telstar Trimaran off LM in about 3 weeks, so if you are out near the Shorewood Yacht Club, feel free to stop by and go for a sail with us.

Sailing Breezes offer good classes. I took the keelboat class this spring and then took the bareboat and coastal class in july. I am going to take the navigation class here in October. I have rented a tri maran on Medicine lake a couple of times from them as well. I will probably take one of the catamaran classes this spring as a way to get out of Minnesota and get a head start on my tan.

I joined the Wayzata yacht club but I did not get my membership packet until pretty much the end of the summer so I guess I will have to wait until spring to do anything with that.
