Snowwolf, ask around at the local docks, clubs, marinas. Especially on weekday evening race nights (often tues-weds-thurs 7PM starts) and on weekend mornings.
Show up ready to sail, ready for the weather but packed light, with lunch and cold drinks. And maybe a book in case you've got to hang and wait.
There's always someone who is short on crew and if all you can do is rail meat and sit and watch and learn--they'll need you. And there's apways someone simply short on room, or with extra room, who's glad to help someone else get started.
Not every time--but LOTS of times.
Heck, I've seen guys show up with a duffel bag wearing a sign board "CREW NEEDS RIDE" with their credentials on the back side of it, and get snatched up before major races too.
