Very well said CD... the nyquil must be affecting you more than we thought....it was not only well written, but quite coherent. BTW, your father sounds like a wise man... how is his boat search going??

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I don't want to get off topic on Johns thread... but it is going slow. We are caught up with tying up the personal ends of life that allow HAPPY boat ownership to take place.

Idiens is on a distinguished road
I have never tried it, but I am told this site works for finding crew ....

http://www.cruising.org.uk/cahouse/crewing.shtml

But you would have to join the CA as a skipper (easily done).

Best of luck.

P.S. I posted a link to this thread there.

My wife needs salt-water crew experience, point to point for a week or two and preferably with solo watches, sail handling, etc (i.e. real on deck work). Where are you thinking of going and when and can this be a relatively short commitment?

(She doesn't have her new passport yet, which could take six weeks or so).

I get the sense John's desire is for an evolution to a non-platonic level . . . unless that's what you're proposing Val.

Val and his wife could have a very open arrangement...

Val - I intend to make some offshore hops between Bueafort Inlet, NC and Florida. Will probably leave Bueafort around the 1st of Nov. She'd be more than welcome to crew for part of that.

TB - platonic is fine with me. In some ways I find it more appealing. Mostly though, it's what ever might happen.

*%&@*%$&*, Val. Heck, if I'd a known wives were an option I'd have FedEx'd Mrs Sailaway to John first, now you've got the inside track. (damn!)

I confess, I did have brief images of a Gilligan's Island scenario. One which, in Mrs Sway's prolonged absence, might result in the house getting sold, the new house's kitchen sorta getting done, and a Flicka in the driveway really getting done. I should go to sleep now-dreams don't get any better than that.

Hmm .... not to impugn the gentleman's (purportedly) honorable intentions, but, as evinced by his post on a somewhat related thread (quoted above), it could be that he's been operating on a makeshift basis and is perhaps seeking a more satisfactory arrangment....

...no offfense intended - I merely saw an opening and used it ...
