My two cents

I haven’t posted here for about one year, although I come here to read and learn often. I also have low post count. Added to the injury, my English grammar sucks. I guess I should just kill myself instead of learning how to sail in the big pond

Before Kacper’s incident brought into this thread, I contacted Captain Kris. Since then I have two lengthy phone conversations with him. I feel no bad vibe from him. On the phone, he was very open and easy to talk to. I know most of you dislike him because what he did to Kacper. If you are going to take side, you should do a thorough job to investigate both parties.

Capt. Kris gave me his website link to his boat. I studied the pictures careful and saw the human side of him. From the pictures, he has been around and all over the places.

This Friday I will drive up to Long Island to meet him. He invites me to join him to sail the NY harbor this weekend, but I haven’t accepted because my weekend schedule. I will make my decision based on the merit of his boat and his ability. Likewise, I expect him to evaluate if I am suitable to sail with him.

Just remember:

1. Every story has three sides
2. Bad grammar on the internet does not mean the poster is stupid and bad
3. Person has an accent does not mean he or she is dumb and lazy
4. A sailing newbie does not mean that he or she is a looser in life
5. Critical thinking skills comes with age and education
6. United States is a great country, but don’t be so self centered

Thanks,
an Old Salt in life

I do think this thread is getting a little far from what I and others called him out on. This isn't about personalities or at least shouldn't be. My point was he got crew from sailnet, treated them like slaves to fix his boat, never went sailing. Then came back for a second time, making no mention of the previous adventure.

I care little about his grammar and I am impressed that English is his 4th language. I think looking for crew is a lot like being a salesmen ( no pun intended ) the first impression is most likely going to be your only time to make the sale ( pun intended ).

I'll own up to being out of line on the grammar comment. My bad, time will show it was out of character for me.

As to the rest, I still feel the same, some hours and many posts later: Captkris has not owned up to the FACT that he set a date to sail (previous thread and this one) well before he had a boat ready to sail; and he expected the crew to either waste time sitting in port while he made the repairs, cleaned out HIS junk from locker etc..
Whether or not he sent emails in the past as he says fully detailing the condition of the boat is questionable, Kacper would (imho) have mentioned it instead of saying he was surprized to find the boat without engine.

His boat was not ready to go in any way - he knew that well in advance and should have cancelled or postponed the trip, period. Instead he invited crew to share expenses which means he wasted thier time and money.
Ya'll sail with him if you want, but ask yourself if that's the kind of capt you would be?

I Couldn't Agree More ......

[quote=Freesail99;211283]I do think this thread is getting a little far from what I and others called him out on.

Yes; but it is a valuable conversation, regardless of this incident. Maybe I'll start a thread on it if I can get rid of this damnable headache......

This isn't about personalities or at least shouldn't be.

Well, yes and no. Personality does play into these decisions; but that will be for the other thread.....

My point was he got crew from sailnet, treated them like slaves to fix his boat, never went sailing. Then came back for a second time, making no mention of the previous adventure.

Indeed...............

I care little about his grammar and I am impressed that English is his 4th language.

As am I, how many Americans ever bother to learn a second language?? (disclaimer: My wife and I are learning German now, with the expectation of adding Spanish in a couple of years)............

This is a big topic, and should be discussed on it's own merits apart from the discussion of the merits of this crew request.......

I will confirm that from the first time I spoke to him on a cellphone to the first time we met in person (and he directed me to his broken head), Alex was as close a match between his "Internet persona" and the man he is in real life as it is possible to be. TommyT and I agreed on this: what you read is what you get.

This information may frighten some people...

Who wants to sail with you? I do.
I did not even ask when and where and which boat...

Do you really want to know?

OK, who knows how to create a poll on this site?
Something like: Who wants to sail with Giu
1) Yes, but only if Fred is with us
2) Anytime anywhere
3) Yes, but only if he promises not to sail too fast
4) I would prefer captain Ron

Five kids, 29 to 20, yeah, my bad - my good, all out and on thier own (which is how I can afford the boat).

Capt Kris has no knowledge of the Kacper thread existed until CD brought it up. After realized that, he has been very open about the whole thing. He also acknowledged his mistake and wanted to make peace to move on. He shows no sigh of arrogance but patience.

We all make mistakes - big and small, but we learn from it. Let it goes. Let him learn and be a better captain. I think Sailnet community will benefit greatly because we don’t have enough captains willing to take on crews to sail the open sea.
