Capt. TJC...pay no attention to these people. You sound like a fine captain to me and your picture is really sexy! I really admire someone with confidence and who delivers orders with zeal and expects them to be obeyed without hesitation. We could use more semen oooops Sea-men!...like you. I do not have much experience at sea but perhaps you also need a loyal and obedient cabin boy. It would give me great pleasure to wash your feet daily. One thing you did not mention was flogging. I am from time to time a very bad boy and need to be punished. If you are the type of man...and I think you are...that believes no sea voyage is complete without a taste of the lash...then sign me up.
I've got the bit in my teeth and I can hardly wait for the adventure to begin!!
I find it very interesting that you attack me instead of posting anything close to an answer to the basic questions I posed above. Yes, I'd probably be very surprised if you designed anything at all. You sound like most of the blowhards I have dealt with across many different professions.
Most of my posts are far from negative comments, and based on my experience in the real world. As for love, I have a far better idea of what it is and what it takes than you ever will hope of having.
You don't know me... and I seriously doubt that any sailor worth his salt is willing to put up with a petty Captian Ahab like you, given that you don't pay for the flights to or from the boat, for food for the voyage, or the crew. I'd imagine that's a good part of the reason you've gotten crew that you find doesn't match up to your expectations.
You can't get good crew without offering them something in return. In the case of some I've sailed with, it was friendship and good company, as well as a shared adventure. You offer neither friendship or good company from what I can see. BTW, I just helped a friend do a delivery of a new-to-her boat she inherited. She's not wealthy, but she offered to pay for me to fly down and for me to fly back... since I was helping her bring her boat back for her.
I'd say you're simple all right... very simple-minded.

I don't believe anyone wants to give you a hard time. It's just the way you swaggered in.
And you want crew to finance your cruising!
What's in if for your crew? Maybe a thank you? Are we supposed to be sooo grateful that we'd pay a thousand dollars or more for travel to/from and work free to experience some of your expert knowledge all the while listening to you screaming?
Apparently thru your superior mental capacities, or osmosis, you already know none of the hundreds here are your equal or worthy.
I guess we shouldbe grateful your willing to share your vast knowledge with the rest of us undeserving, couch-sailing, wannabes.
As for no one being able to "handle it". I don't have your sea miles, (I've never worked a 1000' ship) but I've been on the summits of hundreds of mountains (including two assents of Denali), climbed rock & ice, sailed, jumped, swam, crawled, fought more fire, blah, blah, blah. Hell, I've had myself in more anal clentching adventures than I can recall.
You sound like the reason I learned to ask for references from former crew.
X number of miles on the deck of a 1000' ship doesn't impress me. Nor does it surprize me your looking for crew. Probably nobody wanted to do a second passaqe with you.
If your such a hot-shot why don't you sail it yourself?
P.S. I do know how to change oil.

Ughmo seems to have hit it on the head... if TJC were such a great captain and sailor, IMHO, he wouldn't have trouble finding crew.
Yet, here he is, looking for crew that is stupid enough to put up with his conditions—pay your way to the boat, from the boat, and pay to eat.... and yet is competent, skilled, and experienced. Last I checked, the competent, skilled and experienced crew was all out on boats with captains that weren't so cheap as to not feed them, much less make them pay for the experience of sailing. TJC wants slaves, not sailors...and he's having a tough time finding them here.

The problem is ..You guys don't know what good crew or sailors are...A good crew has a little puke on their topsiders..been there and don't complain when things get a little tough..but merely executes.. That's why academy cadets learn to follow innane orders..to execute and keep their mouth shut..it's called discipline..either you have it..or you never learned it..
It's not an ego trip..It's one mind directing..all the oars have to be in the same direction..The undesciplined mind or unseasoned sailor doesn't understand that..From dealing with recent experience of "Yachtsmen"? that's the case it seems..
If you don't have the resources..Get a job..don't poor mouth me..
If the sailor didn't like the ship or the Captain.. with real sailors, He or she, didn't throw their card in for the job..They just sat in the hall ..AND KEPT THEIR MOUTH SHUT.
With you guys..you're crybabies..fighting their mother against being put in the bath water..You don't have the experience or knowledge to really understand the dynamics involved with Captain and crew... judging from your atrocious comments..This whole thread..your directed, ignorant, juvinile attack of me it's rediculous.
"If you are not interested..Why you even opened your mouth to comment is beyond me.."THAT"S WHAT EXERCISES ME.." You are that bad..
As mentioned..I did get someone good..experienced..who knew what I was talking about..so apparantly my remarks paid off with purpose intended...Do you understand that..
A good captain... with a good crew doesn't do anything..He just makes sure things run smoothly.."If you can grasp that philosophical concept"..He doesn't yell.. He just gives an order and it is done..nice and friendly like..A well run vessel is efficient and low key..no drama..
Cabin boys need experience on day sails around the buoys..First things first...I don't want you..nothing personal..earn your stripes with experience..That's what credentials are all about..You need not explain..You got there..and that's what counts..
I don't have room for rookies on an 800 mile sail to Panama.with 2 crew I want sailors..who have been there.."at least know which way the wind is blowing"...At least make sure the vessel is secure before running off to take a shower..well he quit anyway..
The cameraderie comes from overcoming whatever difficulty the voyage throws at you.. Feeling a sense of a job well done, overcoming difficulty.. Wipeing the puke off your topsiders..Fixing what needs to be fixed..and asking ...Captain when do we sail..Now that's a crew member.
My presentation was purposefully graphic..I'm not selling anything..just separating the reality from the romance..Looking for a good sailor
As Captain Johnson..Commodore of the Lykes Fleet once told me.. 30 years ago Sailor just keep your mouth shut and watch your course..You have nothing to say.
I defended, attacked and educated You..and won't be revisiting this thread anymore..I don't have the time or patience..you are just too wet behind the ears..
My E-mail address is on 7 knots.com...apparantly not enough posts or whatever to leave AN e MAIL ADDRESS..As stated would preferably want a good lady sailor..already have one sailor..from this site as mentioned
TJC, it is a fair game. Information exchange is the purpose of all forums. If you don’t want to show your face, don’t post it on the net.
You are an old man and yet you haven’t really learned the interpersonal skills in life. If you are truly a sailor, the mighty sea must have taught you to be humble. Reading your “very first” post on this thread, you appear to be angry, bitter and negative. It is hard to believe the Swedish bikini team will join you.
We are not your enemies; you are you own enemy. I urge you to rethink your approach in life. Like TB says, learn the human compassion and camaraderie. More importantly, learn to appreciate whatever throws in your way. Life is short especially for your age. Find peace within you and may you NOT die in anger.
………… Everyone can wear Speedo or thong. Some are like eye candy and some are like eye sore. It is the by-standers have the final say. Please dress appropriately. When in doubt, ask your shipmates.
If you write back, would you please use coma (,) period (.) semicolon ( etc in your post. It is very hard to read your post. I certain do not want to misunderstand you.
Just remember it is nice to be nice. Fair winds.

Just curious, as to who TJC got to crew for him from this site. If it was you, would you report back after your return from the voyage. It would be well worth having another personal report, given the negative experience that seemed to be the case with the person posting on 7knots, seen below.
Quote:
i sailed with a guy from key west to cuba then to isla mujeres. where the boat still is we got there on mon 22 oct 07.the boat is a 40ft creekmore cutter by the name world wind , i dont normally say things about others but this is all about safety. The guy whos boat it is is 65 and has supposely been sailing racing and in merchant marines for 30 years so you would think hed have some idea of navigation and how to sail.....wrong hes dangerous. the boat is also unclean and leaks profoundly from every port hole and hatch. Now i flew from the uk to sail around the world with this guy ,an experience i had in such a short trip as i had only just learnt to sail a few weeks previous in the uk but have been on a number of different motor boats for some years. Another reason for not staying with the boat two ports , one couldnt find the sea buoy on isla mujeres with was a mile off on the gps and running aground in cuba as he couldnt keep the boat in the channel on a calm clear day ..there is more..but thats enough. But one other thing is a kind person and i wished him all the best in anything he does for the future. but if you decide to sail make sure you visit the boat first
BTW, as for my previous post... TommyT and Valiente, you guys sailed with Giulietta... would you do it again??? I'm betting you'd jump at the chance... why is that? Because you enjoyed the time you spent sailing with him... which I don't think would be the case with TJC. I stand by my statement that good captains generally have little trouble finding good crew willing to sail with them repeatedly.

I'm home for family obligations so what the hell... I'll play your silly game.
It's true someone has to be the captain. You'll get no arguement there whatsoever.
There may be discussion when everything's sunny and warm but when **** hits the fan yes, one person, hopefully the most experienced not egotistical, should be in calling the shots.
Viewing your website though, I don't see a thing about your having done any prior small boat sailing. Only about sea trials in KW. Have you taken your Creekmore anywhere except to Mexico? Has all your experience been obtained on the decks of commercial ships? How about posting some of your sailing logs where you've experienced such horrendous conditions that had you puking in the sink and tying yourself into your berth?
What have you done that you can automaticly blow everyone here off?
I find it insulting, presumptous, and frankly rather ignorant for a college educated individual, who doesn't know anyone here, to automaticly assume your superior in intellect or ability. Anyone who tells me they know it all would be the very last person I'd sail with.
Aquestion you've not answered, what's in it for the crew?
Please, enquiring minds want to know!

Just wanted to be a devil's advocate, do you think every sailor should sail with a captain from Hell at least once. I think one should be benefit in such ordeal as long as he/she can come out alive.
