I used to work for a boss from hell, don't think I'd experience anything new under a captain from hell...and don't see a real need to ever deal with that kind of situation if I can at all avoid it. The guy I used to work for reminds me a lot of TJC... lots of arrogance, attitude, credentials, but didn't know jack when it came to the real world, and has sh!tty people skills and was a racist on top of that.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Coming from you, I consider that a high compliment... I know I certainly wouldn't want to be in your high regards, when you have a pretty sh!tty attitude and treat others like crap. I'm really not surprised that you have trouble finding crew, given what little you've written on this site. I don't pull my punches, and I generally call it as I see it... See you later Captain Ahab...

In post 25? you claimed you wouldn't be revisiting this thread again
but you did
how can you expect others to follow your orders when YOU can't even follow your orders ?

although I may be able to help you with something

I am certain the reason people keep puking on your topsiders can be directly linked to the speedos

I pity any woman unfortunate enough to get stuck on a boat with you for six days

A shame really.

I'm sure the guy's a good friend to somebody somewhere. Those first impressions are a bitch sometimes though.

Regardless, best of luck sailor.

The bottom line Gentlemen:

Two hard bitten cigar smoking sailors who have been there and back responded favorably..and want to know when the ssailing board is set and will be there.."That's what I'm interested in results not "pig squeeling from the gallery"..The following was an E-mail sent to both...Nov 12th

Hi Ron

I just wrote an E-mail to a very experienced sailor out in the west coast who is interested in going..his reaction to my solicitation similar to yours..This is the reason why
i was so blunt and raw....

Hi George:

My dialog on crew solicitation was not very popular both on sailnet.com and 7 knots.com.. I was rather graphic as you know and pointed out..What I said was some of the “raw” reality associated with the sailing environment...Those who have been there like yourself understand that

There are many armchair sailors out there who have this romantic version that's alien to reality..They gave me a good going over on Sailnet .com but that's OK

I had two crew members in April..who left before we even sailed..The environment was too confining for them..I guess they thought they were getting on a cruise ship with first class accommodations..They just packed and left at the marina while I was away

One other flew down from Boston with a guitar..and “recording equipment” no less... Seriously..after dropping his guitar on deck....he quit.. He told me it was a sign that he shouldn't go....It wasn't the Swan 54, and we were not strutting around Newport R.I. Harbor..I was tied up at a friends dock in Hernando Beach

For the three of them it was a brand new experience and they left not only leaving me high and dry but the expense they incurred on their airfares...was for me..at the least disappointing for them..I gave the guy from Boston..a young kid...a ride back to the airport

The last fellow pictured diving around the world..He came in from England..He was ready to pack it in after a one day sail to Cuba..I got out of there before he quit there and then..When we got into Isla Mujeres..he was in the shower before the vessel was even secured...He left as expected the next morning..with some other hair brained idea of what he was going to do..

So the problem is with those who are on the net with little experience..They don't understand the confinement particularly THE GRIND.. when it gets rough and wet..Their mind's picture is distorted..with reality..so to do them and myself a favor I needed to keep it raw.

I found a second crew member so I would like to hear your thoughts when you might be available..There is no need to rush...I thought sometime a bit before Christmas..at the latest...Let me know your thoughts. about availability so I might come up with a sailing date.

Best Regards

Tom C.
