TJC, you seem like a guy with at least good intentions, if not the best literary ability. So here are a few subtle hints: First, the majority of people who post here to sailnet know A LOT about sailing, cruising, and boats. You may not want to admit it, but you did come here when you were in a jam and needed help changing your oil. So telling us all about how "graphic" and violent and horrible life on a cruiser is, is like telling a bunch of firemen how "this one time...you turned on the stove....and you forgot it was "on...and you touched it...and it burnt kinda...and you had this blister...it was really bad!". (The punctuation is yours not mine, sorry I couldn't help it.) So cut the ****, we know what it's like out there.

Second, if you're gonna act all Captain Bligh and ****, you have to actually play out the part to its logical conclusion, actually being competent at sailing. Now, I know you are hastily typing a rebuttal about how you were a merchant marine, and they let you blow the whistle (both the ship's and the captain's). But you are arguing that because you have driven a semi-truck across the deserted Australian outback, that instantly qualifies you for a cross country motorcycle tour. The two just aren't interchangeable skills, no matter how admirable your truck driving ability may be.

Third, forums are full of cynics and assholes (present company included), that is what keeps us entertained when we can't sail. So take things with a grain of salt.

I really do hope this helps. Keep working on that grammar or we may hold you back in third grade again. Good luck!

Any woman dumb enough to crew with TJC probably deserves what happens. There are so many warning flags about this guy... that any sane person would question sailing with him for a passage of any duration.

If you read his previous posts, especially those on his Isla Mujeres thread, you will realize that you will be stuck on a boat with three individuals of roughly the same caliber... TJC describes the crew as:

Two hard bitten cigar smoking sailors who have been there and back responded favorably.

I seriously doubt that most women would want to be stuck on a boat with individuals of this description by themselves for an extended voyage.

TJC's attitude and arrogance clearly speak for themselves... Having been a professional merchant marine sailor speaks little about his actual abilities, as being a professional only means that the IRS knows you do it for a living.
