Would you mind elaborating on "expense sharing"?

There are two ways to 'share' expenses: one, the crew shares your expenses; or two, you share the crew's expenses.

That's why the clarification is being requested...

Most crew don't mind if the captain helps with their expenses, like entry/exit fees, airfare, food costs, etc... but will have a problem with subsidizing the captain and stuff he should probably be paying for...like food, entry/exit fees, etc., especially if the crew has to pay to fly to and from the boat and isn't getting paid.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Ur rite, dawg. I was just trying to amplify 5user5's question -- so that islander46 could respond precisely to the point. My guess is that islander46 has more of the-crew-subsidize-the-boat type of expense sharing in mind, but I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.

He may have cut off the bowsprit to save on dock fees.

(Sorry, that was a snarky comment, but I couldn't resist.)

I define expense sharing as, You pay for an equal division of the provisions and an equal division of any customs fees. Now that the Bahamas charges over $300.00 for entry I divide that also. If we stay at a marina we divide the cost of that also. You are responsible for your own airfare to the key's and from Panama. I provide the the boat the fuel and a great adventure.

So if I understand this correctly, you would like your crew to pay their own transportation to and from your boat, pay for their own provisions while helping you sail your boat, pay their own immigration fees, et al so you can get you and your boat where you would would like to go?

What a deal!! Tell ya what, I need my house painted. You come up to my place on your own dime and feed yourself while helping me paint and I'll help you sail to Panama. How's that for a equal deal?
