Good luck and welcome aboard. I would hide your email address like rootzionne at hotmail dot com to keep the spammers away, and not post a phone number untill you get to know someone and then in private message. Although 90% of the people on this board are outstanding people, you always have a perv lurking. I would give the same advice either male or female...just my 2 cents worth.

Jolyana-

I would highly recommend you be a bit cautious about giving out your phone number and would recommend you remove it from your post. I'd also recommend you edit your e-mail address to be rootzionne [at] hotmail dot com or something to that effect, so that the spammer webcrawlers don't get it as easily. I'd agree that most of the people on this site are pretty good eggs...but there's always the possibility of a lurking perv or whacko, as Gysgt said.

Be aware that you won't be able to post links or write PMs until you've gotten 10 posts on the forum.

I would also recommend you read this post to get the most out of your time on sailnet.

If you're really interested in learning to sail, I would highly recommend you pick up Dave Seidman's book, The Complete Sailor, and read it. It's a pretty well written book with good illustrations that covers a wide group of sailing subjects. I'd also recommend you find a local sailing club to join.

Taking a basic learn to sail course would probably also be a good idea.

Welcome to sailnet.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Whatever you do... don't let Gui have a photo... he's a strange, strange man... a good sailor, but when he's stuck working for two or three weeks, he seems to go a bit loony...

Most of us, here on sailnet, tolerate him because of his lovely wife and the boat named for her... he's also got two kids, one of whom is a great sailor...and has taught Gui most of what he knows.

Jolyana, whereabouts in BC? I'm a bit South of you but if you get down around Anacortes WA, I'd be happy to take ya sailing. We've got some BC members on Sailnet as well.

Jolyana - if you're in the Lower Mainland area, we can probably help you out. We keep our boat at False Creek, and do go for weekend daysails on a regular basis.

Should you happen to be in the Whistler/Squamish area, recommend you go to the Squamish Yacht Club later this month (Sundays by 11 am) and you will be sure to get a ride on a local boat in a racing series.

Jolyana,

I am not from your part of the world, but I would suggest you go to your local yacht club and talk to sailors there. Ask if you can join a crew for races. Good Luck!

Come down to Annapolis and come sailing on the Woodwind! We'd love to have you, and maybe could even hire you as crew once you learn the ropes. Just google schooner woodwind.
