Crew for you?

Hi, my name is Carl and I'm looking to gain experience under sail.

My experience:
One summer on a small lake sailing lasers and sunfish (caught the bug). I'm not nautical illiterate though. I spent many years in the Navy and have sailed around the world (if you want to call gas turbine engines sailing).

I've read some of the other threads and understand that going to the local yacht would probably net me some sail time, but I live in Lansing Michigan so I'm trying to make the 2 hour drive to the "local" marina worthwhile

That said, I'm a hard worker and understand the new guy will be expected to do the more menial tasks, no problem. I have a high learning curve and can take orders. I've done lots of reading this winter and looking forward to getting my feet wet.

I would recommend you pick up a copy of Dave Seidman's The Complete Sailor. It's a really good book for people interested in learning to sail and covers a wide breadth of sailing history, technique, skills in a really easy to read book with good illustrations. It's about $14 at the local bookstore.

If I get to racing this year, I will contact you. We sail out of Grosse Ile on Lake Erie/Detroit River.

I started out on a Sunfish also back in 77, and I actually still have it.
