From your description of prior experiences and your present location I presume that you're either in the Navy or the Marine Corps. If so, have you considered the Del Mar Marina/Sailing Center at Camp Pendleton (phone 725-SAIL (7245). Also check them at mccsCP. They have a Basic Sailing Class in the 16.5 foot Capris starting April 30th. They also keep a sign up list for people willing to crew - but you'ld be much more likely to get a crew offer if you could claim basic skills to be used on a bigger boat.

I have chartered boats out of their facility in the past. Right now I'm out of CONUS until May then gone again in late June. But I'll send you a PM if I take out a boat in May and you're still looking for experience.
