Need Delivery Captain for 22' from NJ Coast to NYC

Howdy,


Looking for a delivery captain to sail a Bristol 22' from:

Barnegat Bay, NJ

I have zero practical sailing experience and my Father-In-Law hasn't sailed in years.

Congratulations... I see you got the Bristol 22 instead of the Bristol 24. How did the boat survey?

Congratulations on your purchase. The 22 is a great boat and will give you lots of enjoyment.

Find, beg, borrow, or steal a trailer. This is not a journey for the 22 to be taking. With great weather it would be a wonderful trip. Hard to schedule the right weather for a delivery date. You are talking 30+/- miles of ocean with big time shipping traffic in a small slower boat that has not been "shook down". Every had trouble with the rig, engine or electrical system? You do not know. You have no history with the boat. It is not worth the risk. It is probably at least a 7 hour trip from Manasquan Inlet to your marina without any real run and hide options. Get her home and take some time getting to know her before asking a trip like this of her.

I know it may be expensive to get the boat moved but it is the only prudent course. Rent a trailer, rent a truck and drag it yourself to save some bucks. Sorry, I would love to help but I do not think your idea is prudent.

If the boat surveyed well, there is no reason that it couldn't be delivered via water given the right weather window.

Seems like you could motor on the NJ icw to sandy hook then have a very short crossing on a good day. Looks to be only 7-8 miles of open water... 2 hours with a reliable motor in windless conditions would be best!

I concur with Cam. My experience with Barnegat is only consider using it in the the AM never in the afternoon with the usual SE onshore winds where they could oppose the ougoing 5 knot current. ICW up to Manesquan is fraught with low bridges and the Point Pleasent canal has a swift current while you wait for the bridges, but is safer than the first time thriough the Ambrose Channel. Err on the side of caution, Matbe you should trailer it. 22 footer is easily trailered.
