Lake Lanier

This is kind of weak in this forum. Most of the posts here are in search of actual crew - like to work a boat in open water. I'm just looking for someone to sail with.

I've got a Cal 27 in Lake Lanier, Georgia. I sail solo frequently. My family isn't interested in sailing when it's cold or when it's blowing so hard as to lay the boat down. So, I'm looking for a spirited sailor to keep me company on short notice day sails.

I have a question, How do you keep you keel out of the Red Clay?
I was on Lanierlyempty a few weeks ago and we had to use a
submerged road to launch a buddies Bliner Cuddy Cabin. (no ramps open in our area on the North End)
If they don't stop drawing water out of that lake and if you guys don't get a typhon real soon
and if the courts don't figure it out, your going to be on the bottom real soon.
Its actually very sad to see, but on the other hand, in the short term there is still
plenty of boating to be done. You must do your sailing down in the Southern End.
I like that lake, just sad to see what is happening to it.

Good luck in your search MW.
I really hope they figure it out, from what I understand, its not just the drought that is doing this.
Its a very pretty lake.

Check out this photo of a channel marker.

Now back to the original question,
Who wants to go sailing with MW??
Next time I am down that way, (we pass by you a couple of times a year) (can't help on the short notice thing)
I will be sure to look you up.
I would love to sail on Lanier.

Good luck,
I'd be happy to, but I am on Long Island.
Perhaps if you posted on your marina bulletin board.

mwrohde,

I'm in Atlanta and generally available on short notice. Where is your Cal 27?

Since I've just joined SailNet I can't send you a private message yet but I think you can send me one to exchange contact info.
Thanks.

My boat stays in the water, so no need to launch. As for keeping the bottom off the bottom - pay attention! Actually, once you're out into the main body of the lake you can sail ok. Would be better if the tub was full, but it beats not sailing.

And, last I heard there were some ramps open on the north side of the lake. They extended several of them so they could be used with the water this low.

Good idea, but I keep the boat at a friends dock behind his house. That makes the marina tenants me and the home owner.

I think my wife my frown when I say "A lady I met online wants to come stay here". That may cause her to put her lawyer on speed dial.
