I want to help Crew From USA to Australia

I know this is going to sound funny but I met a girl online and have been invited to spend of my life with her in Victor Harbor Australia. I don't think I will be comming back to the states after I get there and would love to help crew a ship there for a fw reasons one for the memory and one to write about it someday. Any time in 2009 would be nice, not looking for money just some food. I can leave from the east or west coast. If you would like a crew mate, I'm hard working and would love to help out.

Craig—

You really shouldn't post your e-mail address online like that unless you like spam. Getting a berth as crew on a trans-oceanic voyage would probably be much more likely if you mentioned what sailing experience you have.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Xort

If you have a ship going to aussie land anytime soon, I'll tell you all about it.
Might give us something to talk about at nite.

Interesting reading. My nephew spent some time in this location. Locals very friendly. Awesome coastline.

billyruffn will become famous soon enough
You're going to need to work out details of an Australian visa before you leave, because any skipper who takes you there will be required demonstrate how and when you're leaving the country. You can't just sail in, jump ship and stay in Oz forever unless you work things out before hand with the folks at the Australian Consulate nearest you.

hmm Shameless.

As an Aussie here, I do need to loudly echo Billyruffn. 'Spending the rest of your life with her' is what our Australian government likes to call immigration. This business of 'spending the rest of your life' makes our government boffins very very nervous unless you happen to be a neurosurgeon with 10 million in assets. To do what your talking about, there are hoops and then hoops and then more hoops and a hell of a lot of jumping ahead of you.

Please DON'T come here on a tourist visa, and try to work or stay, thinking you will get away with it, so common a ploy is it that we actually have a primetime TV show called 'Border Security' on the very subject starring government officers kicking such people out of the country. It was one of the highest rating shows last year......

So the bottomline is that getting a skipper who doesn't know you to take responsibility for your actions in reference to all of the above is slim.

Oh yeah and like SD said, if you did indeed find such a skipper who is willing to risk financial ruin, imprisonment, and an appearance on Australian TV to take you for a sail, it might be of passing interest to him whether or not you know one end of the sailboat from the other.
