Crew Available in New York

I am a student at New York University living in the city for the summer. I am 21 years old, responsible, practical and I have ample sailing experience. I am looking to crew for any short trips, or even a day sail or two in the New York/ tri-state area. I am just looking to help someone out whose boat is otherwise going to be at the dock, gain some experience and get on the water!

Your best bet is to contact some of the yacht clubs (Western LI YRA) and concentrate on City Island or Nassau County north shore. Find out when they have "beer can races" usually weeknights hosted by rotating clubs.

Show up on the dock, properly dressed, and start asking around two hours before race start time. SOMEONE ALWAYS NEEDS CREW. I saw one guy show up for a three-day race (the ALIR) wearning a sandwichboard that said "CREW NEEDS RIDE" on the front, and listing his resume on the back, and within a couple of hours--he had a ride for one of the biggest races on LI.
Sometimes it can be that easy. These days, many of the clubs can be found on the web--and some have "crew needed" pages that you can reply to as well.

I'm also in New York and am looking for a boat heading south preferably Bahamas or farther but I'm up for anything. If you happen to see this and have a position open or know of one please drop me a message thanks.

Tom

I am in the process of getting ready for a fall trip from Savannah to Ft Lauderdale as the first leg. Lauderdale to Dom Rep as next leg and third leg on to the Virgin Islands. Does this interest you?
