Finding sailing companions

I felt a little bad for Bob when he made his request for a female sailing companion.

Surely there are positive ways to go on a forum like this and find ways to connect with sailing companions?

Putting the request in "crew wanted" seems to get almost nothing positive. even I, made a remark on Bob's seemingly honest thread "female sailing companion"

Even though I'm not seeking a companion at this time. I do relate to the plight of the single person very well. Personally I like to find out as much possible about a person by their profile, pictures, writings and discussions. They tell much about person without them saying a thing! (except in my case!)

There are of course; sailing singles clubs, local sailing clubs/yacht clubs, to just name a few venues that come to mind.

So, in name of fairness, can we let single people have some space to interact?

Denise, I followed that thread I feel a little bit bad too, as the guy in question seemed pretty honest. When you post to an online forum you certainly are taking your life, or at least your ego, in your hands

In the end there's not a lot of security in this venue. A potential "companion" can hardly know what she's getting into. He and others like him are probably better off going the more traditional routes, making face-to-face friends, hanging out in groups, that sort of thing. Spontaneous romances are, well, romantic, but probably also unwise.

Adam there was a thread on hersailnet a while back, she went with this guy on a lark, apparently the boat sunk and they were rescued. On the other hand I do believe most ladies and gents sincerely seeking friends (companions) are intelligent enough to know how to meet in safe places for first time meetings.

yeah.. try to picture a beautiful young lady standing on a dock while "mr sailing expert" woos her with promises of "adventures in paradise" and more. and he doesn't even know what mag north or true north means. Fortunately, there aren't the many beautiful young ladies that dumb! If some "persons" spent more time telling the truth and facts they may do better with potential companions. (just my opinion)
