Crew available Portland,Maine this summer

My wife and I are moving to Maine in June for graduate school and my program of study doesnt beging until Sept. 2

I would love to work as crew for day and short trips.

My previous sailing expeience is a few ASA basic sailing classes and lake sailing on a Force 5. I also have experience in a Flying Scot.

I am a quick learner and am willing to work for the opportunity to sail. Scrubbing decks and polishing brass for experience is fine with me.

Eventually, I'd like to own my own boat but not untill school is finished.

Points East Magazine (the freebie that you can pick up Hamilton, West Marine, etc...) has "crew wanted" and "want to crew" ads both in its magazine and on its website: http://www.pointseast.com/crewmatch.shtml

Also, they sponsor a Crew Match Party, coming up on May 5th from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at Handy Boat in Falmouth Foreside.

You should also check out the Gulf of Maine Ocean Racing Association, http://www.gmora.org/ - that will give you a schedule of the major races in which you could potentially crew.

Note that GMORA is hosting a Safety on the Water Seminar that might be of interest, May 1 from 8:30 to 12:3O at the Portland Yacht Club ($20 for non-members of GMORA).

If you're looking for a job, consider the schooner fleet. I think they mostly sail from Rockland an Camden.

We have a few schooners in Portland also.

Crewing available at Centerboard yacht Club for Wed. night racing. Be there by 5:15pm to find a ride.

Portland Yacht Club has J24 racing on Wed. and PHRF on Thur. See their website for info.

BTW, CYC has the only PHRF scored week night racing in Casco Bay.
