I don't know how often you folks use your boats, most boats just sit in the water unused most of the time. A partnership seems like an eminently feasible solution to cut the costs of ownership. I have been in a 3-owner partnership of a 25' sailboat for 3 years now and am very happy with the arrangement. Never, even once, have had any contention with use. Partners have come and gone, most were very easy to get along. Problems can be largely avoided by making sure to have a detailed written agreement and thoroughly check prospective partners for compatibility. Every one gets exclusive use of the boat for a week. If you want to go during some other partners' week and the other guy is not using it, you are free to use it with his permission. I get exclusive use during my week, have a pool of sailing partners when I want to go, split costs 3 ways, and have help in various boat projects. Obviously this model has its limitations, it works best with compatible responsible people, moderately priced boats and mostly day-sailing or small trips type usage.
