Good point Charles. I just had an applicant from Hawai so a phone call would have to do. How do you ensure they turn up on the day?

I'm always just one of the crew so I don't do the interviewing. Personally, I would not dream of going back on my word. But I l know some people do. I would think once a plane ticket is cut you stand a good chance they will show up.

Given my experience with Crew Lists for simple day sails, I can't imagine not meeting potential crew first, for a passage. People can be so flaky and inconsiderate that it still baffles me. Glad to hear it works out sometimes, but I wouldn't do it!

Hello John,

I'm a delivery skipper and as it happens an OPO skipper. I'll be happy to help you get crew from OPO and explain the way it works (pretty well for you).

Selecting crew can be an interesting experience. There are lots of potential pitfalls. If you would like to talk about it we can chat on the phone or in person near Annapolis.

Could you elaborate on your experiences here so we all can benefit? I for one, would like to see the pitfall list. Here... I'll start. 1. Don't take on any crew with a hook at the end of their arm and an eye patch Seriously, this has inspired me to start another thread regarding my day sailing experiences. I could write a book!
