Hi,

We race in the Raritan Bay. Our schedule from last year is posted on http://www.windshadow.net

We will have a similar schedule this year once I get the race dates. We are always looking for crew on weekends.

SteveZ,

Thanks for the email! Great web site!!! After moving from San Francisco 5 years ago, I''m determined to get back into sailing this year and meet new folks... By the looks of your schedule, sounds like you get out quite a bit. I''d say I''m intermediate level but lacking experience with the spinnaker- If you can put up with that, I''m interested. How many years have you been sailing? Types of boats? Philosophy on safety? Approach to racing? Casual or intense? Do you have any questions for me? I''m looking forward to talking with you more-

Happy sailing,
Laurel Burkhardt

Hi Laurel,

We do have a busy schedule and we have room for crew at all levels of skill. We have an interesting mix of people and we all learn something new at every race. If any crew member wants to bring a guest and we have room they will be welcome to join us. We also do some night races which adds another dimension to racing. I will be sending out an email with the schedule once I get it and will be updating the website. We don’t expect everybody to come all the time, no major commitment, just fun when you want it.

I have been sailing about 30 years and racing twenty of them and I’ve sailed on so many boats I couldn’t begin to list them all. I also help crew so I am on numerous boats on any given year.

Windshadow is a 1970 C&C 35 built for offshore racing. We have updated all of the systems with new equipment for safety and comfort. I check everything after every race for problems. Safety is a priority on Windshadow and we will have you fill out a form with contact and medical information you would wants us to know in case of an emergency. That information is kept in a sealed envelope and won’t be opened unless there is an emergency.

Most of our weekend races are non- spinnaker and we consider ourselves fairly competitive. The races that are spinnaker are usually the longer races, 10 to 30 miles, and everybody gets a chance to do everything, including trying their hand at trimming the spinnaker. We try to keep it casual but I would be lying to state that we don’t try to win every race.

I would like to know what your racing experiences have been. What are your goals, are you interested in some of the longer races or night races? What you don’t know and want to learn we will teach you. If you are more experienced than us hopefully we can learn from you! I rely upon help from my crew and I am always open for suggestions.

If you want to give me a call feel free to do so. If you give me your email address I will keep you up to date on the schedule with the regular crew emails I send out.

Regards,

Steve Zwiren

Hi Steve,

I live in Old Bridge, NJ and would be interested in joining your race crew during the season. I work a lot of hours during the week, but I am open to a weekend schedule. Nights are fine too.

Please keep me posted with further information. My email address is nyfcpres@att.net

Thank you,
Robert S.
