Northern Labrador/Northern Gulf of St. Lawrence

This is an invitation to join Dr. Walter Adey, a scientist/marine biologist/ecologist at the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of Natural History, and his crew on the 20m (64 ft.) motor sailor Alca i to Northern Labrador and the Northern Gulf of St. Lawrence, one month each, during July and August of this summer.

Specifically we are looking for two pairs of experienced sailors, couples accepted, who would enjoy participating on a research expedition in northern waters. The sailors would serve as sailhandlers/deckhands and assist in managing skiff/divers on station. One of each pair would be expected to manage cooking, but on a shared basis. The first leg of travel will begin about July 1st from Quirpon (near St. Anthony), Newfoundland for approximately 31/2 weeks to the vicinity of Nain, northern Labrador, returning to Quirpon in late July. The second leg of the cruise will begin approximately August 1st., will cover the length of the northern Gulf of St. Lawrence shore and end in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia late in August. All expenses of transportation, room, board, food will be covered. About 70% of total time is spent anchored near shore, on station, and ample opportunity will be available to go ashore and explore.

If interested, please contact Dr. Walter Adey at adeyw@si.edu
